solarman216 ( rick ) would be the best person to answer that , he has had ...er a very close look at my mistral

well I have not done a side by side comparison but apart from some trim differences like electric folding mirrors, kerb mirror on nearside wing, front grill I think, there is not a lot else I can think off, Rick

Ok thanks Rick,:thumbs just wondering as there's someone who lives up the road from me who has a mistral. I'll see if I can park my t2 next to his and compare them. He's not as mad about these trucks as we all are lol:rolleyes:

mistys tend to have more bling,

window vent visors?, some are deeper than others.

saw one vside window sorry deflector that was as deep
as mirrors, fitted around them then went up and over
side windows.

some also had spare wheel mounted or rear door mounted
reverse mirrors, like the imported lucidas though most
lost them along the way.

the auto isnt rated for towing , reckon is lower gross figure
than even uk autos as japaneese dont tow as much as
us and i believe have a gross trailer weight of 750kg.

that said most misties are 2nd or 3rd cars, family toys
which is why their odometers even in km are typically so
low.

they use a different fm band too so ice tends to either
get swapped out in uk or can get band block adjusters?

speedo read in km so legally have to be changed, this
is usually with an overlay in mph on import. the odo
genenerally doesnt get changed so can be misread as
mileage not kilom...age!

oh despite towing advise we have had members towing
1500 kg twin axle tin tents no issue, the nfmoc founder
shark1e (before bat and mav) being such a tugger....

From what we know from Briggies, the brake master cylinder is different, and maybe the brake shoes/ pads.

There is also a "Mistral Badge" on the mistral :lol:lol

There is certainly a difference of undersealing, my 95 Mav was well protected from new, but some of the imports are not that well protected.
Does this include the Mistral?

.

Ohh yeah. The number plates are in a differant place too because there's a thingy on the back door where the mistral badge is.

btw afaik the jury was still oout on whether mistrals
were built in japan or built on the line in spain and
shipped out, possibly in ckd style.

the terrano r20 was designed by nissan uk, in cranfield
and very much for the uk/euro market, i dont think
ive seen mistrals quite as old as the early uk models,
yes mk1 but uk (spain) were from 93, ref ian douglas
where as the mistrals tend to show as late mk1s from
around 95 and a few mk 2 twin headlight models.
I'm not aware of any mk3 or 4s which suggests
mistral production stopped around same time as mav
mk2s ended. (around 99?)

incidently the muzzo which was made by sangyong
need became daewoo, til daewoo flopped into gm,
was designed by a uk independent design house, i
recall it being paraded around the 4x4 press in the
early 90s before ssangyong took it on board as a
way into the euro market, it being uk designed.

interestingly of course after gm takeover most of
daewoo has become chevrolet, wonder what the usa
buyers of chevy stuff reckon to the stuff. but then
ssangyong like a pheonix from the flames started
up again. probably because in korea bankrupcy
isnt the same as here but i digress.

brought to you to show not all things are what they
appear to be lol!

That's the numberplate thing I was on about:doh

PHFT you're all missing the point, their all the same EXCEPT the Mistrals auto and costs loads more in insurance, :doh
The rest is bling and bolt on able :thumbs

mine also has a mistral badge on the steering wheel :lol

yep the brake master cylinder is different , so are the brake pads , i believe the rear bumper is different too because of the offset for the spare wheel , it has a cut out too , not sure if the terrano does ( ive never had a terrano )
oh and fitted with air con as standard too

thats funny about the fors steering wheel,

when i ve suggested the build dates mirror the
mav, so perhaps one line did terranos and
another mavs and mistrals.

whats the black bit above number plate in that
mistral picture, suspecting something to do with
outside reversing mirror

the ford steering wheel is probably justa replacement, perhaps his air bag had been activated, ford wheel would have been cheap from a scrappies...

Nissan Mistral

The Nissan Mistral is an 4x4 off-roader manufactured by the Japanese automaker Nissan. It was also made by Nissan's Spanish subsidiary Nissan Motor Ibérica S.A. for the European market, where it was marketed as Nissan Terrano II, and also supplied under an OEM agreement to Ford Europe for sale as Ford Maverick on the continent. First launched in 1993 and discontinued only in 2006, the model enjoyed long market life in just one generation, with its basic form unchanged, albeit having been significantly updated throughout its lifetime. Nissan's internal designation for this model was R20.

The R20 was based on the WD21 Nissan Terrano platform, and came in two body styles differing in wheelbase—a shorter three-door and longer five-door model. For the British market chiefly, a panel van version of the three-door was also made. The vehicle's body, tall compared to most competitors and providing for high ground clearance, was designed by the Italian I.DE.A Institute.

Production of the R20 started in Spain in February 1993 and the Terrano II went on sale in Europe in May that year. The Mistral was launched in Japan in June 1994, at first available in the five-door version only - the three-door Mistral joined in 1995. In 1996, the car was facelifted, gaining round headlights.

In the beginning of 1999, both the JDM Mistral model and the Ford Maverick were phased out, while the remaining Terrano II was facelifted again, gaining a new front fascia more in line with contemporary Nissans, as well as an updated interior. In 2002, yet another facelift took place, giving the model the steering wheel from the Nissan Primera P12. Presented in March at the 72nd Geneva Motor Show the model was hence marketed as simply "Nissan Terrano" in Europe, the previous Terrano being marketed as Pathfinder. The R20 was sold in Europe until 2006, when production in Spain ceased.

Engines

The Mistral had 2.4 petrol and 2.7 TD turbodiesels at its launch in 1993; from 1996 the petrol engine became injected and the diesel intercooled, with 2.4i and 2.7 TDi replacing the previous models. In 1999 a 3.0 TDi turbodiesel was produced, using the Nissan Patrol's engine.

ok so made longer than I thought, but ended as suggested

dunno about Italian design vs cranfield, unless that was muzzo and i muddled, again.

I do have factory brouchure for mk 2 some where, also had several magazines reviewing launch of t2/mav though were given to club's founder.
