Hi all just a quick one my terrano tyre size is 135/65/17 and have been given some 115/60/17 can I use them ? Any pros or cons ?? Thanks

I am a bit rusty on tyre info, but the 115 is the width and the 60 is the aspect ratio, so both bit together have an effect on the rolling radius, or overall circumference, so if you have 4 no probs but if only two then be OK as long as not in 4 wheel, Rick

Do you mean 235???

Most of the T2's I have seen have 8" wide tyres or more.

115's would only be 4.5 inches which would be way to skinny.

well spotted Clive I assumed 235 and 215 even though I typed 115, but have hit the wine early as up early tomoz, Rick

115 is the width in mm, and the 60 as you say is the aspect ratio (wall height), so 60% of the 115, 69mm. Overall wheel size is 2 x 69mm + rim size.

Problem is, the rim is in inches, so you have to convert one or the other to then work out the overal size.

so...

235/65 17 are 6 inch walls, so 29" overall diameter.
215/60/17 are only 5 inch walls, so only 27" diameter wheels.

Personally not only are they thinner by nearly and inch, but 2" smaller, I would not want them, but as Rick says, if you are going to put all 4 on, and make sure you never mix them, then they would do...

You would never be safe to put the spare wheel on though, assuming that would still be the original size, as that size difference would do the LSD a power of no good, and also play havoc with the steering if fitted to the front.

Just make sure your current rims can take the tyre.

Each tyre manufacturer states what rim size range the tyre can be used on to be legal and safe. So see if yours are in the range.

Also this is a vehicle modification, so needs to be declared to your insurance company.:doh

215/60R17's will make your speedo over read even more:doh plus due to a smaller side wall the ride will be a bit firmer & road holding & breaking performance will be reduced a bit due to the narrower tyre width:augie
