The starter motor on my terrano was shot so i removed it and found it to be the one with the bell housing. I ordered a new one and found that it was the other type i.e no bell housing on the end just a cog.

I was informed that they are interchangable and indeed they are.

The cog on the ends of both are 9 teeth.

So if you need to replace one you can use either.

The new one is a FRS604-LRT106-LRS727
The old one was a FRS304-LRS1170-LRT106

No swearing (maybe a bit) just one out and one in.

I did mine recently, used the non bell housing varient. not as much swearing getting it back in!

Anyone got a workshop tutorial on this? have to change mine, or is it simple job??

If your good at swearing , it's a piece of pish:lol
Bit of a squeeze going through the engine plumbing thats all:cool:

yeah, I did mine recently, got the non bell housing one, perfect. Getting the old one out through the top was a pain, getting the new one in was MUCH easier, but required two people, one to drop it down, the other to fix it in through the wheel arch..!!! I wouldnt mind, but its only a couple of pipes in the way, plenty of room otherwise.
