If like me you want to replace the Nissan radio you will need to replace the hazard light switch built into the radio.

Remove the standard radio and remove the two plugs, a white one (radio loom) and a smaller brown one. The latter is the wiring for the hazard warning switch.

Splice a wire into the green/red and another into the red/blue one. Link these via a standard switch and voila, you have bypassed the in-radio hazard warning system and retrofitted your own!

Aesthetics mainly, the terrano from about 1999 to 2006 have a slightly different dashboard and the radio is just under double din size, Nissan decided to remove the 4 switches in the dash that used to be under the radio on terranos from 1993 to 1998 so they could squeeze a bigger radio in, now the radio has a hazard light switch built in, don't know where the places the 3 remaining switches though.

All the hazard buttons/switches I have been looking at on eBay have 5 or 6 terminals at the back. How do I know which ones to wire into with out burning my car out?????lol

Most Hazard light switches have a change over system, that allows the 2 separate indicator circuits to be joined into one Hazard Circuit. All you need to do it put a continuity meter across the various pins, and find 2 that short out when the button is pressed.

As there are only 2 wires on the car, and shorting them is how you turn the Hazards on, you will not risk any damage if you get it wrong.

One thing you will need to do though, is make sure the switch you get is illuminated, and you will need to find both the pins for the bulb in the switch, and the instrument light wire in the radio plug, and link that to the switch as well, as I believe the Hazard light has to be illuminated at night and if it is not, and is spotted by the MOT tester, you will fail.

As for illumination of the switch, it just needs wiring into any of the lights on the dash, the heater control back-light for instance. The tell tale will be the flashing green indicator lights on the speedo binnacle, but the switch will be illuminated when the side/headlights are turned on allowing it to be seen:thumb2

As a aside, I've had many vehicles MOT'd without a illuminated hazard warning switch, as long as it's clear what the switches function is you'll be fine.

I acquired a proper conversion plate and switch for mine so didn't have to worry about this. But i used to run a few ford Transit vans and they all have a similar problem having a double din stereo, you can buy for only a couple of quid the blanking plate to mate up the size difference, i wonder if one would fit a Terra? stands a good chance as stereos are different sizes. Now I have cut a couple of holes in one of those plates and snapped in a couple of spare transit switches (you just have to be careful to cut the hole the right size) to run roof beacons and spot lights. All this is probably no use to anyone, just thinking aloud :augie

The problem is, the T2 switch is designed to fit in a recess (Well, on mine), so would look scruffy.

I think you are right, but to be honest, any flat bit of plastic/checker plate/thin wood, would do the job, just a case of cutting it to shape and finding a smart looking switch to mount in it.

Well, I can now confirm that this fix does work. :thumbs

I've fitted a simple off/on switch (in a switch blanking cover) next to the door lock switch, on the left of the steering wheel.
I drew a small red triangle and stuck it next to the switch, good job I was allowed my crayons today! :D

Hazards are now working. :naughty
