Hi

Got a 2002 diesel 2.7 terrano; the yellow engine shaped warning light has been coming on occasionally. When on, acceleration is poor; when on a long descent the revs were blipping up and down without me touching the throttle. My mechanic says the 'throttle switch' has gone and the local Nissan dealer has quoted over £500 for a new one!!! - how can it cost THAT much? Any suggestions for a repair or finding a cheaper part?

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark, whne the engine lamp is on the engine may well be in limp home mode so will be slow.

Try a breakers yard, I've used www.partsgateway.co.uk to find things but there are other web site of the same nature. Easier than trawling breakers yards yourself.

Throttle switch

Thanks Jim - I'll double check that it is the part I need and then check out that breakers web link...

Do a search of the forums, I know some members in the past have taken the potentiometer apart and cleaned it out, dirt and grit seem to get in over time.
If I remember it’s a bit fiddly but its got to be worth trying before buying another one.

Thanks for that - I've come down to £70 for a part from a breakers yard (Dalcrue 4x4); so I've now got to decide whether to just get it cleaned out.... off to the forums!

throttle

hi mark i think your throttle is fly by wire no cable i had the same trouble all i did was to take the throttle pedal off and take it apart and clean. there is a crude sort of clutch which i presume is when offroading your throttle foot remains steady anyway you will see what i mean when you take it off. on my maverick its 3 or 4 10mm bolts and remove the electric loom plug easypeasy. my local ford dealer wanted £160 for the complete unit you can guess what i told him to do with it. andeone

Thanks Andeone

Tried to get it cleaned but it didn't solve the problem - the computer read out was saying the actual switch is broken... got the spare part arriving Monday so hopefully that will sort it out.

Cheers
