Hi all and a merry christmas, i am looking to change my 97 Maverick 2.7 tdi for something newer and more economical, ive looked at X trails but seem unreliable so am thinking of a 3.0 terrano. Are there any major problems with them that i should look for or is there any differance between my 97 2.7 tdi and say a 2003 2.7 tdi ie better fuel economy. Many thanks Dave

Hi Oldbrook
Re the 2.7 versus the 3ltr - I've had both and apart from the common T2 gearbox problems, which I have experienced on both, in my opinion the 3ltr wins hands down. It has more power, greater flexibility and better economy. There have been posts here that suggest there can be issues with the TWO oil pressure sensors (see previous threads on the subject) but after over a year of owning my 2003 3ltr T2, I have yet to experience any such problems.

3.0 litre in my opinion. I always get 30 or over to the gallon. Really powerful and tons of grunt. They are also coming in cheaper now than they used to with more available. Lovely truck.

3lt 3lt 3lt is what you want ...........over 150 big fat horses fast & powerfull

my mate has a landy TD ......and iam still waiting for him to catch up !!!!!!

apart from faulty oil switch its never missed a beat :lol:clap

I have run a 3.0L manual from new so 6 years and 85,000 miles later what do I think. Simple its a great motor loads of grunt for towing and off road returning around 33mpg.

But do carry a spare high pressure oil senser as the beast gets through one about every 20,000 miles and the persistant glow of the oil pressure light does cause some loosening of the bowels when it occurs, it never happens during the day near a Nissan Dealers.

suspect the teething troubles with the 3.0 in the patrols were sorted
by time it was dropped in the terrano.

however servicing times are longer, particularly on open heart jobs
like head gasket failure. 7 hours on 2.7 v 13 hours on 3.0, ok not
an every day job, but ups the bill if a main agent is doing it....

having had this and 3 of 4 cracked pistons in a 2000my troll thats why
i'm back with the trusty t2 2.7, that said come the day this 2002 t2
is up for replacement i'd consider one of the final terranos in 3.0
guise, perhaps with a slush box for good measure.

Now have a 2005 3.0 SVE and selling my 2001 2.7 SE+ at the mo.
The 3.0 does have a smoother engine and pulls very well through the gears, not so strained IMO.
I have owned my 2.7 for 7 years and it's been a fantastic car, just service items and a new clutch fitted, great for towing and so comfy on a long haul.
I had been looking for a 3.0 for some time and the one I bought was quite cheap as it needs a few things doing (oil switch)
I hope to keep this car just as long as my old one, longer if possible.

Update, well I have now sorted out a few issues that came with the car, the rear UJ on the prop was shot, I changed that and also changed the rear diff oil...filled with Comma LSD, that helps a lot.
So I have now given the car a good run and am well happy with the MPG over my 2.7 and it's much smoother.
The Terrano's are great cars for distance driving, I hope to keep this car for many years:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2
