Replaced the starter yesterday. Took two hours, the first starter I have ever changed.
In case anyone needs to do it, this is how i did mine.
13mm & 14mm spanners (Its tight with sockets)
Disconnect the battery.
reach in through the engine compartment (driver side) and undo the top terminal with the 13mm.
Take the drivers wheel off, pull the rubber cover off the chassis behind it. This will give you access to the lower bolt. Undo with the 14mm.
Back through the engine compartment, undo the top bolt of the starter, again 14mm. Its a tight place to work and slow but it will happen.
This will set the starter free.
Now the difficult bit. You have the option of removing pipes and wires. Apart from two wires attached to the top, i didn't do this.
With access through the side, you can turn the start around so that the cog wheel face up. You can then reach in and pull it up through the engine compartment. I wont lie, its very difficult at this point. You may wish you had taken it to a garage but it will work. Just pull and push hoses until you get it free. Just watch for steel pipes that don't move.
Putting the new one in is easier after that. You have saved your self some money too.
Hope this helps anyone who wants to have a go.
Have fun
