Been meaning to put this up for ages, seeing recall warning reminded me. Prices are unmodified from original article which is quite old.

Corrosion Ask the seller if the car has ever been left standing for long periods. Notice whether the car has low mileage in comparison to others of the same age. Cars that have been left standing can corrode. Look all round the chassis and under the car for signs of rust.
If there is much corrosion a garage needs to inspect the car to ensure the rust is not damaging the structure.
Have a garage inspect the corrosion.

Turbo Listen for a whistling noise when you accelerate.
The whistle indicates that the turbo seals have worn and need replacing.
Negotiate a £500 discount or have the repair completed.

Clutch Test-drive the car and see if it accelerates smoothly or delays when you press the accelerator and then surges forward.
This means that you need a new clutch. The clutch takes 7 hours to fit so the bill will be expensive.
Negotiate a £500 price reduction or the repair completed.

Gear lever Check that the car goes into all gears easily. In particular check that 1st and 2nd gear will select without being forced. If the 1st and 2nd gears are very difficult, the gearbox will need replacing.
Negotiate a £500 discount or have the repair completed.

Gear lever (2) Listen for a whining noise coming from the gear lever when driving. If you detect a whining noise, stop the car and dip the clutch. Does the noise go away when you dip the clutch?
If the noise goes away the release bearings or lay shaft bearings need to be replaced.
Negotiate a £600 discount or have the repair completed.

Differentials Drive the car round a corner in 4 wheel drive. Be prepared that the car could kick or hop slightly.
This is a sign of a fault on the differential. The differential needs repairing.
Negotiate a £300 discount or have the repair completed.

Wheel bearings During the test drive, listen for a droning/rumbling noise from the wheels. You are most likely to hear this noise above 30 m.p.h. or as the car corners.
The droning/rumbling noise indicates that a wheel bearing needs replacing. This may because it has not been greased at the car's annual service.
Negotiate a £250 discount or have the repair completed.

Recall 03 Jul 1995 Built: 10/02/1993 - 17/11/1994 Due to misplacement of the cap ply, tyres may lose pressure through a crack in the butyl inner liner. This may have an adverse effect on vehicle control. VINs: 200000 to 242699.

Recall 19 Jul 2000 Built: 01/01/1995 - 31/07/1997The brake system LSV pilot tube may chafe on the vehicle floor pan. Over time the wall thickness may reduce and allow fluid leakage, resulting in reduced brake efficiency. VINs: 243900 - 307301.

Recall 27 May 2002 Built: 01/07/2001 - 31/03/2002An interference can occur between the steering column and the brake pipe which supplies fluid to the rear brakes which may lead to brake pipe leakage. VINs: 475199 - 493474.

Not very accurate or comprehensive though is it? The diff one is ridiculous; it could be describing the classic symptoms of transmission windup and since when is that a fault??

Not criticising; its a good idea, but if someone has the patience it wants a bit of modification/addition I'd say. :thumb2

Ain't sayin its excellent but the main thing is the recall details by chassis number at the bottom.

Plus it scared the living daylights out of the people I bought Mak from when I started working through a checklist :D
