TD gearbox into TDi ?

Dont know but ive been told there are 2 different lengths of gearboxes have had several people in the past ask me to measure them.I would have thought if this was the case you could simply change the prop to suit?

Think you will find the mounting cross member is different as well as the prop. Although saying that earlier tdis have the same box as the td. So difficult to tell which you have, an easy guide that normally is accurate is the level / filler plugs are on opposite sides.

mine is an early tdi 1997, my gearbox oil filler is on the tdi side, bri

i did it the opposite way round a 2003 12k gearbox into a 1996 square light and a 2006 into a 1997, you need the prop shaft as well, i did get the cross member as and matched but if not a simple drilling sort that out.

be a good idea to do the clutch at the same time, my one concern about going for older gearbox is that you have more chance that being knackered or very close to being trouble.

i did at the time make a thread with pics a while back ago but i cannot find it as it was under my old username.

Thanks for all the replies, it's a recon gearbox with a year old clutch in it from a 1996 maverick. the guy wants it for a 2001 terrano. :nenau
