Think my tappets need adjusting on my 2.7td mav. What sort of a job is it to do?

Cheers Gav

easy, but do not use feeler gauges, as the rockers will have indentations, after the inlet valve closes turn crank further quarter turn then slacken the lock nut and screw down till no clearance, then back off quarter turn and lock up, both inlet and ex on this cyl, do the same for the others, Rick

First job I did was this, and I used feeler gauges, worked fine :nenau

All the head gaskets we done here 6 at least, all the rockers showed some indentation wear, so if you use feelers the gap you will get is the feeler plus the wear, which can be as much as 10 to 15 thou or more, Rick

So, does that mean by valves aren't opening as much as they should ? Loss of power ?

Hi,

How do you turn the engine over? I have only done petrol engines and removed spark plugs to remove compression, then turned the engine via a socket on the crankshaft nut, or is there a way to crank with the starter from under the bonnet?

Just flick the key, just enough to turn engine but not start, left arm reaching thru window, head cranked around open bonnet so u can see tappets
