hi anybody have any ideas on how to open a jammed tailgate no acces to inside mechanism due to door closed.:lol ford maverick swb 1994

id go for the push in hard , and do the lever or just wiggle it about.

failing that you sure its unlocking , maybe check the lock knob is rising give it an extra pull up from inside.

failing that . your looking for a new tailgate door card. of thats the case maybe someone can take a pic of a tailgate without a door card . so you would only need cut a hole if you have a pic and measurements where to cut safely . to avoid further damage.

I agree with extreme, try the central locking while some one is pushing on the rear door, in case something has got jammed in the lock mechanism.
Try using the key from outside while pushing/pulling the door, and try a small screwdriver on the knob on the inside of the door while locking and unlocking, also try to open door from inside using the handle, again while pushing the door and locking/unlocking.

I just looked at my rear door, I don't see how it's possible to remove the inner trim with the door shut, even after removing the door seal. The bottom plastic cill has 4 screws, if you could get that out it might help not sure you could do it.
The rear handle is held on with 1 pozidrive screw, and the release handle facia unclips. Otherwise you may be cutting the rear panel

If you did it neatly you could make a cubby hole, if you knew where to cut.

I've got a bare back door with the locking mechanism but no handles here - I can take some photos tomorrow if you like ?
Is there a noise from the lock when you activate the central locking ?

Hi
I had a similar problem with my 98 SWB. I managed to pry off the door card once I had removed the door handles. At the time I was not too concerned about the card as I had a spare one but it came off with a bit of difficulty without damaging it although some of the retaining clips broke. The problem was a small rod linking the handle to the catch which had slipped off. I just snapped it back on and it has not been any problem since.
Hope this helps.

Sometimes a cable tie around the clip can keep it on, as long as it doesn't catch anything.

Remove the trim from the inside of the door edge to give you that bit more room, try and remove the lower plastic cill at the bottom, 4 plastic screws and remove the littlle plugs from each hole, you might get it out,
Remove handle and trim around opening handle.

The trim needs to be pulled from the bottom edge first, and there are clips up each side and I think the panel needs to be pushed up about 10 mm to disengage the upper clips, and the locking button.
I am not certain, but his is how the other trims are attached.

I would think it would be easier if the car was warm inside, it might just give the trim more flex and avoid/reduce cracking.
Good luck.

I am not aware of anybody needing to do this so you are a bit of a pioneer.

Let us know how you get on.
