I need to change the front shock absorbers on the Truck.

Can I do it without jacking the truck up and taking the wheels off?

I think you need to get the drive shaft out of the way, and I bent the lower mount trying to remove the front shocks on my old TD

MMM. seems a bit drastic to remove half the front suspension just to replace the shocks.....pretty sure A garage wouldn't go that far.

I've had a look and rekon if i can get a ratchet in there they'll come off, but wanted to know for sure that i could do it wi the truck on the ground.

Should be able to compress the shock to clear the top/bottom mount to remove or fit (might need to eat 3 shredded wheat to be able to compress the new ones tho' :lol)

DRIVESHAFT OFF  say what :lol
Just jack it up , take the wheel off and away you go :)
The usual issue is the big barsteward bolt at the bottom , apart from that it's a doddle :thumbs

got that mixed up :doh you have to take the shock off to get the drive shaft out.

front shocks

you can do it without removing anything did it on mine now has gas shocks top nut can be a bit of a pig to get off but the parts should come with a new one so cut mine off:thumbs

Good idea, but if you use an angle grinder take care where the sparks go.
Try soaking your nuts for a few days in some penetrating oil...

Try to take some time off during Christmas, the strain could be getting to you.:doh

When ever you make a pot of Tea, don't forget to put the tea bag in before the water...:lol :lol

Oh and take the plastic bag of giblets out of the turkey BEFORE you put it in the oven....:doh

Time off : Booked

Cup of Tea : Waiting

Plastic Bag full of giblets : Never again

Happy Christmas everybody !!

Cheers Chaps, I will get the spanners out over Christmas and give it A go. :thumbs

If you're doing any offroading, don't use gas shocks  They're too damn bouncy

Well I finally got around to replacing the Front Shocks on the Truck today.

In the end I treated myself to a shiny new 4x4 Jack and a Halfords advanced professional 150 piece socket tool set to do it.

I was really surprised how easy it was to do the job as well, weather was A bit poo but al ldone in about an hour or so (including a Smoke n tea break).
As had been mentioned in this thread, the top mounting was a bit of a pig, but got them unscrewed and I used the old nuts As lock nuts against the new ones when fitting the new shocks.

oh pants i just got gas ones need to watch it now

They're not bouncy, they're just stiffer

Tbh I'd prefer nitro over hydro

Hydro may offer more comfort off road but crank the duration up of traveling over bumps at moderate speed and hydro will foam up and become useless as the gas in hydro shocks deteriorates as it heats up quickly and they over heat

The only difference is the lower temp of nitrogen charged shock gas, meaning it will not foam up as quickly, but they are stiffer due to the higher stock pressure in the nitro shock

So a harsher ride from nitro but more control in extreme conditions

The reality of this for greenlaning is nitro rattles ya teeth out :D as most if us don't drive like a rally driver offroad ... EXCEPT ME :D
