Hi guys, Mr Pigglet here with a query re the other half's new wheels (2003 T2 sport)...

Been trying to get the OEM CD player out, not to replace it, just to get at the wiring to install her bluetooth phone kit.

It's a standard DIN sized unit, but AFAICS there's no obvious holes or slots to put in the usual removal tools. Had a look at getting in behind it but I really don't want to be hoicking out trim panels at this early stage in their relationship!

Any trade secrets before I get annoyed and start levering with successively big screwdrivers....?

Thanks!

Been there! 1st thing* I did this morning was a good search of the forum, and I'd already read that one.

I've even got proper removal tools rather than the ubiquitous coat hanger remains! But as I said, there is a distinct absence of holes in which to stick 'em! Other stereos I've come across sometimes have slots either side for thin metal tools, but it is similarly slotless.

D

*well, not the first thing, I had a scratch, yawn, cuppa, brush teeth etc

Well when you find out how, post your findings, it may help someone else later.

I feel sure someone must have the answer for you?

You may well have a clip on facia on the stereo and the holes behind it, worth a very very gentle pry, dont force as it may snap

The plate that surrounds the stereo which includes the hazard switch above does come away, but only (it seems) from the bottom, either side of the stereo. At the top at the hazard switch it seems held fast.

Trouble is, I don't want to exert too much force & snap the thing. All the Brownie points accumulated thus far will, I think, be null & void if that happens! I just wish I knew what was behind it, and what's holding it.

At the moment I'm just gonna fit the phone kit without the mute lead, as long as I can find a suitable source of electricity under the dash.

If the mk3 is the same as the mk2 which I think it is, it's easy to get out
1st take out ash tray, there will be 2 screws reamove them , next there is an over hang above the heater controls, there are 2 screws under the over hang & above the controls reamove them & a slight pull & wiggle the hole air vent facia will come forward with the head unit attached.
Job done 8)
Almost forgot  the headunit is held to the facia by 4 screws on the back

Unfortunately Sweety (can I call you Sweety, we've only just met!), it's not set out like that.

Once the ashtray is out, there are indeed 2 screws, but these hold in the entire trim from vent to gearlever (again, firmly attached at the top). Above the heater controls is the cupholder, no screws there.

At least now the phone kit is in after several hours' swearing, which is what I wanted to get done! Stereo upgrade will have to wait for now. If anyone's got any other suggestions, we'd be most grateful!

But thanks for taking the time to post.

No probs 8) just on mine thereis 2 screwa below cup holder/over hang.
Sorry it did'nt work :( I do know the head units are screwed into the facia on the back
The facia at the top a bit of a yank to free the 2 clips at the top next to the vents
I've up graded the hole sound system in mine  I've got 6" JBL's in the font doors. Going to make some new mounts soon for them out of MDF if any one wants the sizes for the mounts

The Mk 3 is different, original stereo can be removed just with the usual pins, and then the replaceable fascia clips in, with the DIN stereo mount. So it sounds like Piglet has a vehicle that already has an aftermarket stereo fitted.

My unit is a JVC with a removable front plate, but there is a clip on trim around it, and this covers the 2 slots used to remove the stereo itself.

Hi Johnathon

It is an original unit but it is the single cd player rather than a cassette deck, this means there are no holes for the pins.

Mr Pigglet has been trying to remove it for ages but doesnt want to damage the car (I have only had it just over 24 hours so i wouldnt be best pleased)

He has successfully added a hands free kit which is fab but i do miss my MP3 player.

P xx

Sound to me pigglet like you are going to up-grade your stero I've got an AIWA and mine has an aux plug hole to enable the wife to plug her mp3 player  . the only problem being that my stereo does not know which speaker to send the sound out of so it goes round the car one at a time :x . this make the art of conversation quite good some times ( yes we still speak to each other 8O .

when i got stumped i popped up to halfords they pointed out the way to do it an lent me the special square pin to get stereo out!

Hi duck

I already have the stereo, its a cd player that also plays MP3s, its great.

However the biggest issue we have at the moment is that we cant get the old stereo out, there doesnt seem any way to do it with out damaging the car.

can u post a link to a photo of stereo in your truck some one may recognise it and tell us how to do it!

 8O oooooooohhhhhhh eeeeerrrr Ididn't know they had changed that much inside. Why not find a stereo fitting centre in GY and ask them or nip down to your local nissan garage I am sure they will help if you ask nicley
