hi there, i have a tow bar mount cycle rack from my previous car trouble is it doesnt fit the terrano as the spare wheel gets in the way , i suppose i can remove it each time i take the bike out but seems lot messing about , just wondering if anyone got cycle rack on there terrano failing that might have to think about roof mount

cycle rack

you can get one that goes over the spare wheel and you can still open the door hope this helps

I have a spare whell mounted one (halfords)I got if from ebay for twenty quid. Works well and I can still tow the caravan with bikes on the back:thumb2

I have one that sits on the back door and a roof bar mounted one, I use the roof mount more though

thanks guys, gonna have a look at halfords or see if i can adapt my tow bar mouted one as ive bought 3 over last couple yrs

had one of those on my other car & sold it, still cant fit spare wheel cover tho while bikes on rack . may look at roof mount as ive got the rails on cheers alan :thumbs

I leave the original Nissan plastic trim on when I use mine and leave the full cover in the shed. Roof mounts are good, but don't forget these are tall vehicles, that's a lot of lifting up and down and DON'T, DON'T pull on a car park the barriers are tougher than your roof rack :augie

mmm the bike is very light so lifting shouldnt be a problem however height wise concerns me like you say barriers :doh . dont often travel far & its usually country parks but yeah some have barriers on entrance but it seems my best bet .... thanks plank:thumbs

Hi,

I have a Thule 3 bike towbar bicycle rack for use on my Terrano.
The spare wheel did get in the way a bit so I spaced the ball out 2" and now its fine.
Fit one of these behind the ball:

Longer bolts and you are away.
Works for me:thumb2
Cheers
Steve

i was in the thule shop other day pricing up another carrier but sales guy couldnt guarantee it would fit but you have one on yours so its looking promising ! .i still have my tow bar mount 3 cycle carrier in the shed & i also have the spacer piece which i forgot all about so first things is to try my old one with the spacer first ,there from my last car tried it on terrano but forgot about the spacer so fingers crossed i might not need to purchase another rack ...cheers steve:thumbs

got a set that bolt to unused stud holes on spare, though concerned
adding lot of weight to spare wheel carrier mount, knowing many doors
already squeak or rattle.

recently got a 5x3 trailer for free, put new wheels n tyres on it, my
old light board, and a secondary coupling.

thinking will carry bikes in it easier than all that strapping 'em to car....

My cycle rack has a plate that you bolt using the tow ball bolts, great on the Picasso, no good on Mav.:doh

So I bought a spare plate, some lengths of m16 studding, a few nuts and cut 2 length of gas pipe approx 6" long. You could use box section, but it needs a wall thickness of 3 mm or more.

I mounted the bike rack plate using the 2 spare holes in the tow bar plate, or you could use a dropper plate.

The gas pipe acts as a long spacer that the m16 studding goes through.
This allows a standard bike rack to be used with the spare wheel still in place.

If you just use the studding without the gas pipe, it is too flexible.:thumb2
