OK, bought a switch from Maplins to use in the truck and I can work out how to wire it up, its a push On push Off with a latch which keeps it On and its also illuminated.
Heres the problem, its got 4 terminals on the back and whichever way I wire them up the light comes on, I need to be able to wire it up so the light only comes on when its in the On position
Heres a couple of piccies

How many earths are you putting to the switch 1 or 2 :? ie 1 for the object to be powered & 1 for the elumination

Only 1 earth, as I was gonna earth the accessory where it is mounted rather than running more wires

Your 4 terminals are as follows.

an earth (for the bulb)
a + supply (for the bulb)

the other two are your switch contacts.

Simply connect the supply for the bulb to the switched contact that goes to your accessory. Be aware that the switch may not be OK with the current drawn by your accessory, depends what your accessory is so you may have to use a relay. Also rember to fit a fuse in the circuit, better to blow your accessories fuse than a car fuse as the car fuse may stop something else working.

Thanks for this chaps but I thought that was the case however, if I wire up the terminals that are marked with a - and a + the swicth light comes on whatever the position, switched On and Off but the light stays on 8O
Please help or am I missing something

Yep it's working as it should. Connect a- to an earth and connect a+ to the accessory side of you switched terminals. Then feed the other side of the switched terminals to a positive. That way your switched terminals are turning the bulb on and off as well as your accessory.

PS what is this mystry accessory

Better to have it lit all the time for the old mother in law ejector button
