Looking at the one on our T1, I think the extra work would be pretty substantial. The T1, has 2 huge shaped metal blocks that curve round the rear wing corner, and are bolted through into a second very thick inner wing which sites between the outer wing, and the inside metal panel the trim panels clip to.
When the gate is shut, it not only latches, onto a substantial lock, mounted to the bottom of the door sill, but has a second support bracket between this and the hinge.
I looked at my T2, when I fitted the one back on the T1, and realised the way the back is, it is just not enough metal there. I decided I would need to build a support all the way from the place the tow bar mounts onto the chassis.
