Hi all iv bought a t2 auto good tax and terst and good body for a fair price that has a noisy gearbox and iv looked for one but seem to be a bit rare.

I also own a manual t2 that to be fair is a bit rough around the edges and a couple yrts older so thought about swapping my good manual box in to the other t2.

Iv got a work shop and all relevant tooling for the job but was wondering if there are any hidden jobs apart from pedal box clutch set up and interior trim?

Pls post your thoughts on wat may be myfuture task cheers jimmy. :thumb2

Might need a bearing to support g/box shaft in end of crank.

Depending on the years the newer one may have engine management issues if you run it without a gear box. My 2001 manual definitely ssems to alter the engine map depending on what gear it is in, I assume the Autos wil do the same.

Interesting comment second sentence Terra - can you expand a bit?

still not clear what that means though? What is being experienced to reach that conclusion.... just want to see if I can see something as well :)

the whole feel of and sound from the engine in 3rd and above is different to 1st and 2nd. Its like the whole engine fueling map is different. Its not uneard of for manufacturers to limit power in lower gears in order to reduce wheel spin etc. Thats also one of the giveaways, I just can't seem to break traction even on wet tarmac with muds tyres in even in 1st.

Thats odd because mine spins like a bitch in the wet

I think I know what you mean? Performance in the higher gears when overtaking can be surprisingly swift if you get it right, compared to a degree of lethargy in lower gears....

ah but no intercoooler darwin, so you must have different mapping I assume? - obviously the "spinbitch" programme! LOL

I am intercooled :thumb2 , when I first got it it would spin on the change into second as well.....that may have been down to tyres though :augie

fooled by the "2.7TD" in your sig....can't say either of mine has spun in second, a bit in first when turning hard right or left but never second...you must have a tiger in your tank...:augie

It not as quick now as it was  , I have neglected it for 2 years and am catching up as we speak.

No substitute for regular use is there - mine has to work hard with a fair amount of motorway miles, and I'm convinced it keeps it in good fettle....

I think toolbox knows the cut off accurately but from about 2001 onwards the Terrano definitely has a different engine management system as it went to OBD2 - also seems to cut fueling completely on the over run in higher gears like Landy TD5s do.
