You need to do local research. The reason is places like Tesco our area sometimes dont stock some of the lines on offer so it doesnt matter what good value they are, similarly Makro here had no offers on a while back whereas makro Bristol was near enough half price.

Do you really really need and answer posting for that :naughty

Hi Bri hope the hols are going well,

That oil..........wouldnt touch it. First off on principal hes making a killing on that!

More importantly though theres a chance reclaimed oil could contain animal fats (hard and dont burn well in engines) and other contaminants, just not worth the chance when Ive never seen svo more than 90 a litre :thumb2 and theres always a tesco or a makro not tooooooo far away :D

Seems a bit steep when you can buy SVO from tescos at 80p and no doubt much cheaper at Makros and the like.
Larger quantities of new Rapeseed oil is 67p a litre for an IBC. I've been thinking about reading up on the aditives to make it more Bio like, to save mixing with diesel:augie

Shall we start a list of hints on how to get it into the tank? equipment needed?

I kick it off, rearrange and use:

N E N F U L

:augie;)

how about this, get an empty veg oil bottle, cut the bottom off, put the neck in the tank and bingo a tank filling device.

Aint really up to speed on what you lot are talking about but I guess its bio diesel.

Have any of you guy's got bio diesel processors, what with the price of diesel nowadays i've been thinking of purchasing a processor but dont know anyone who has tried it and need a few questions answered first.

How easy is it to make

Can i still run my truck with ordinary diesel fuel (mixed)

Can any type of cooking oil be used (veg, sunflower, rapseed etc)

I've been looking at processors on ebay and wonder what you guys think of these.

Patbhoy, svo isnt bio diesel so be careful :thumb2

If your truck can run on svo there are probably only marginal advantages in producing your own bio diesel and using that as opposed to home produced bio. In my opinion, and thats all it is, even those advantages are offset by the fact that making biodiesle at home is fcuk ing dangerous. Have a look at the MSDS for methanol and then see how happy you are boiling it up  :lol:lol

Ive done some very dodgy things in my time and lived to tell the tale but I would avoid this process :thumb2

As above  what he said
I just dont think its worth all the hassle either, all that stinky oil and stills and chewing stalks of corn:augie
Bio diesel avail done by somebody else for about 75p a litre at the mo for 1000 IBC.
Veg (SVO) avail new, virgin, rapeseed at 67p a litre for 1000 IBC.
Do a search on here as it's been talked about for agessszzzzzzzz

i would'nt bother to be honest, you will need a good supply of used oil for a start, my mate bought one and he is a chef and he cant warrant buying one, better to buy svo or bio. :thumb2

i think couple of members have expermented with making bio diesel before and have found it more toruble than it is worth. I personaly woudn't use bio diesel, unless it was made professionaly with new oil to avoid the odd mix of things that are blended with used oil. But having said that then you might as welll just put the veg oil straight in the tank, many members here do

I dont have a clue what SVO is, and where would it be possible to buy svo or bio:nenau

Pat its simple.

SVO stands for Straight Vegetable Oil. Its the new, clean stuff you buy in your supermarket to fry your chips in. Sunflower oil, vegetable oil etc...

WVO is Waste Vegetable Oil (e.g. ex-chip shop) and is shite....not recommended as its full of animal fats and other contaminants

The Terrano 2.7 is one of just a few engines that you can chuck this stuff into (preferably mixed with diesel for best results....50/50 SVO/diesel is fine but you can go a lot higher with the SVO if you like) and it actually runs better in my experience. Plus its cheaper.

'Bio' is diesel that has been derived by chemical means from stuff like WVO by processing.

IMHO its not good unless its from a known respectable source. Home made Bio can contain high levels of undesirable chemicals for a start that can rot some components (ask Tezzer!) and its use invariably results in a need to change your filters fairly soon since it has a habit of dissolving all the shite and crap in your pipes and fuel tank and flushing it through to your engine - however you only need to do that once or twice at most since when the cleaning process is done, its done.....

Is there any kind of modification required to enable you to run on svo then, you say the Terrano is able to, how can i check if my Y61 Patrol can.

The T2 is fine and needs zero modification, but I don't know what the Patrol 2.8 technology is like....anyone else know?

Hmmmm.................diesel not required ;)

In all seriousness theres no record of diesel making it run better other than thinning it down for cold start . If you want a bit of a clean out stick some millers or similar in. They contain the same detergents as the companies lob into bulk and work out cheaper per fill than adding diesel :thumb2
