Had this same problem with another vehicle...however it was a little more serious than a damp patch....the sump had seriously corroded and small pin holes had appeared...when I cleaned the sump up with engine cleaner and a wire brush to get rid of the flaking rust things got considerably worse...larger holes appeared and engine oil started leaking profusley...
My temporary solution / repair untill I get the new sump casing fitted was to purchase some of that 2 core putty that hardens like metal once it sets..its called 'quick steel'...you can get it at any accessory place or Halfords ( if you must)....its easy to work with and plugs up any pin holes.
If your sump is not so corroded then I know of another product called Granvilles Petro Patch...it is specifically designed to patch porus fuel tanks, sumps etc
The patch consists of a woven cloth which you place over the affected area and paint with solvent that goes rock hard when it cures...a fantastic product that works extremely well. I repaired a Fourtrack fuel tank with both of these products that really should have been thrown away it was so bad....the repair was still good after 3 years ..
Granvilles petro patch can be had on ebay....a whole lot easier than removing the sump..
