hello. i am having problems with my nissan navara. when driving along it doesn't matter what speed im doing, the engine will just cut out suddenly as though it runned out of fuel or as though you turned the ignition off. it doesn't happen every day. when it happens, if i leave the throttle go completely and count to 5 seconds, and then touch the throttle again, the engine runs ok. but in the dash board there is a warning light that says there is an engine fault. most of the time that will work but if it doesn't i have to turn the keys off and back on again then the it will start and the engine will run okay. i took it into a nissan dealer (west end motors in bodmin, cornwall) they plugged it into a computer and said there is no fault. but they also said there been a box added to the engine which was fitted by someone other than Nissan prior to me owning the vehicle. i knew the previous owner and there is no way that he would have known how to fit it.

if anybody has had similar problems, please help me!! cheers Patrick

could be one the power upgrade boxes maybe a loose connection if it is? how many miles you done the engines in uk vehicles are prone to serious failure at anything from 60k onwards! when owners are complaining off noise from engine nissan tensiong fan belts for some reason its quieting engine down before bottom ends go bang

when was fuel filter changed last? is it fuel starvation and when you leave it for 5 seconds or so has the fuel supply caught up if you know what I mean.

i am the second owner.

i changed the fuel filter one month ago.

i have had this problem for approx 3 months.

jace: would the loose connection be inside the box or outside where the wires connect to it? i have done 58,000 miles and i don't think it's to do with the fan belt tension.

no fan belt tension used by nissan to fob owners off big end isue,if its been plugged in it cant be electrical or there machine cant read it! so fuel starvation good starting point / is box tricks soldered in or is it plugged in easiest test would be to take it outve line where is it what does it seem to be doing ie is it in pump wiring or normal wiring? could be something daft like alarm if its not in pump circuit
