Does anyone know which terminal is for stop and tail lights? I know the bayonet fitting are at different levels so that in theory it can't go the wrong way around.

Reason I ask is that I've bought a pair of bulb holders but nothing on the packaging to say which wire does what. The earth is no problem.

Only other way is fit bulbs in and test both at the same time and use a welding mask to see which is brightest.

Sorry Jim i'm a little confused as the tail lights are in the bumper & stop lights are in the 1/4 panels are you wanting to fit tail lights high up in the brake light position:confused:

To be sure, a bench test is best, or a multimeter set on ohms could also locate the correct filiament, the lower ohms will be the stop light at 21watts, the tail light, higher ohms, for the 5 watts.
The body of the bulb is of course the return or -ve.

Haha just wait n see Sweety, got a plan:thumbs

As it turns out the cheap bulb holders had a black, red and a white wire on them. The black is the negative and had to solder one of those on:doh then tried one red and one white connected to positive and guess what neither of the two bulb holders had the same wire connected to the same terminal. Got it figured out by fitting them into the lamp. Just need to connect the side lamp wire later but busy replacing track rod and arb link. Clean it all up and paint. Then I can get back to the wiring jobs.

Cheers guys

Modifying the brake lights so they are now stop and tail lights:thumbs

Wired in the brake light part but not the side lights yet. Got the roof lining down at the rear whilst I fit my work lights in the roof. All the holes drilled for those and touched up with hammerite. Then tomorrow morning I'll be fitting and running cables. All this inbetween hammeriting the front suspension and inner wing. Might even get the brakes rebuilt too.

It must be quite nice to start jobs, that aren't immediately essential, it shows that your main objective is to have a fully running road worthy vehicle.
Doing and planning detailed work must be very satisfying.:thumb2

This way, you can see quick progress, and I would think, spurs you on for those tougher jobs.
10/10 for your sons effort too, I know you work with a lot of young people, it clearly shows that you can inspire people, not something that many people can do. The satisfaction from working with young people, and seeing them show interest and enthusiasm is a reward to you in itself. :clap:clap
Very best regards,
Richard

Forgot to say my son was around too. He was busy fitting a wire brush wheel to our bench grinder, it was catching on the guard to begin with but he's messed about and cleared it. He's also assembled the track rod complete with copper slip on the threads.

He's been taking it easy today as he's got a big parade tomorrow to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain so to prepare he's gone out to the pub tonight:lol
