Just a thought ..... Just fixed the annoying clanking from the front end of my T2, driving me mad going over bumps, potholes etc.....turned out to be nothing more than worn out bushes in the lower eye of the front shock absorbers . Seems also to have fixed my steering wheel wobble at certain speeds and the cars tendency to react badly to uneven road conditions. Probably not in your case, but maybe worth a look as a cheap and easy fix?

The achilles heel is the idler arm/draglink design. Search the threads for info on it and check if yours is worn.
Also, depending on the miles, there may be other worn items. Check bushes, ball joints etc. Look at tyre wear for clues.
Check your tyre pressures too - it might just be something simple like this?

Search:
idler
bushes
draglink etc
