Just gone through some easy floodwater (2WD) maybe 100 yds long but not deep only about a foot max. Needed to change direction near the end and found that I seemed to have very little power steering. Exited the water, still very hard to steer but got 20 yds down the road and power steering came back normally. Never happened before and everything was fine before entering the water. :nenau

Pulled over and checked under the bonnet, PS fluid ok, PS pump and pulley dry, bottom pulley and belt dry, belt tight and no evidence of belt slipping.

Has anyone had anything similar happen in water or any ideas what may have caused this. Wouldn't like it to happen on the motorway.

edit,, sorry didn't read it stayed like it for a bit after coming out of the water

Water has got on to the power steering belt, causing it to slip. Once it has dried or water has spun off, steering goes back to normal. Might be an idea to tighten the belt up a bit, it's more likely to slip when wet if it's slack.

yep power steering belt slip you wont see it being wet by its nature it will dry out in seconds just give it a wee nip

Thanks guys, that was my first thought but it must have dried really quickly. Will nip up the belt when it is OK to do so and take another trip through the water. It is crazy wild outside at the moment with the strongest winds I have seen and debris flying everywhere. Think I'll stay in with a wee dram. :augie
