Anyone here any experience with a steering idler arm brace? I have some play in the steering, have to replace the idler arm, links etc. And I'd like to avoid replacing them again next year or so...

The steering box mod will unfortunately not pass the Belgian equivalent of the MOT, so that's no option.

If anyone here happens to have another supplier than Calmini, please share - I got quoted 32€ for the part linked above, and 51€ transport costs

Is that what you're looking for?

If it is then thats the right one for your vehicle as that's the LHD version, Milner will send that to Belgium for you, obviously postage will be more, if you have any issues, let me know and I'll ring Julia for you in the office :thumb2

He can't do the steering box mod Makeitfit due to this:augie

Can't see the tester knowing the difference TBH, unless he knows his Terrano's, it's an OEM Nissan part, I'm pretty sure he'd get away with it

I need to get a new idler arm, the part above - but to avoid having the buy another one in a year time or so, I was looking into reinforcing it by using the brace.

Trust me, testers in Belgium are notoriously difficult; for the same reason I can't really lift the car or put (obvious) aftermarket shock absorbers/springs, bumpers, ...
That being said, would you have a picture of a modded steering box in place?

My point is you DON'T need to mod one. Just fit a standard RHD steering box off a UK truck on yours. Remove old idler and replace in exact same holes and same draglink etc. All std parts.
The bracket linked to from Calmini is ok but then that's obviously an after market addition :nenau
Has your arm bent or have the bushes gone to meet their maker ?

So by that logic, if I found a LHD scrapper I could take the steering box off that and bolt it straight onto mine in place of the idler arm with no modification needed? :nenau

Absolutely :D That was the original plan but costs of shipping from EU etc was nuts let alone purchase price :doh
Infact it could even be plumbed in ;)

Both bushes gone as far as I can see, and (slightly) bent. It's been on there for 17 years :)

Even if RHD box is standard part, Belgian MOT will not allow it - as we are not allowed to modify any part of suspension. For example: I'll have to spraypaint the Millner ARB bushes black before the check, as the car will be failed on that. The thing is, testers will not recognise a brace, as I'll spray it black as well. But I do think they'll recognise a RHD steering box - in the end, both options are a bit of a gamble...

As for shipping costs, even with nearly free shipping of parts from Belgian or continental suppliers, ordering from Millner and the like is far cheaper. Up to 50% even - replacement steering idler arm in Belgium would be about 70£ (90€). So I'd rather support the UK economy :)

Lucky I know a lad in Poland then that breaks 4x4's for a living ;)

Watch this space................

well how about just bunging new bushes for the MOT . THEN fit your RHD steering box and remove at next mot etc

I like the way you're thinking, if you ever have a RHD steering box available let me know :)

Do you have a link to these bushes, or just ebay? And would it make sense to replace the idler arms at the same time - I expect they are just as worn?

Just had another good look, I think I can pull off the RHD steering box thing, as most of it is hidden behind the mudflap - and the testers here are not allowed to remove anything :)

Bad news though: both upper suspension ball joints are shot (rubber cover is tearing). I suspect the lower ones are not much better. So these get added to the list...
