Hi all, just a quick one...

A couple of days ago my starter motor started to make a strange noise, like it wasn't releasing quickly enough.
Then tonight it stopped altogther...my questions are...

Is it repairable?
How easy is the starter to get off and back on?
If i were to replace it what should i expect to pay?

Any help or advice is much appreciated.

It's a pain to get off because the top bolt is in such a awkward place, other than that it's easy.

Helps to have a small 14mm ring spanner or ratchet spanner.

New, I payed £107 delivered. Not sure if yours is the same as mine.

No idea about refurbed.

I have just looked on eurocarparts site and they range from £160 upto about £270, whats the difference any ideas?

No idea mate but if the starter is for the truck in your avatar then £102 ish off ebay delivered brand new. Simples :D

Probably a sticky solenoid

Go to your local motor factors & do a part x or ebay as already said :thumbs

Do not pay over £150 all in or you are being ripped off big time :thumbs

okay guy cheers.

whats the best angle of attack to get it off, bottom or side through inner wheel arch?

from behind, fast and quiet. :D

From the right side from the arch, remove the rubber guard. I had to unbolt the top bolt from above as I had normal size spanners.

Take ya wheel off & straight through the side is the best for access :thumbs

I've mastered it now without touching anything :D

Do a starter in a matter of minutes :augie :D

as i found out you can use a ratchet on the top bolt if you use an extender

nice one....so should i buy a particular spanner to make it easier?

adz, maybe you could do mine, shame you are so far away...lol

Feel free to come down :augie :lol :lol :lol

To remove it without moving anything, just go underneath with a 14mm spanner & rachet with 14mm deep socket & your away ( same from above ):thumbs

Think the connectors are 12mm  :thumbs

i will see if i can get one tomorrow...

i am working at a plumbers tomorrow and there is an Andrew Page next door, i think i will pop in there...see what they are charging

Hi guy, quick update...

Today i bought a starter motor on my travels, went back to work, jacked drivers side up, took wheel off only to find the starter motor not fastened in properly and only secured by the bottom bolt...the top one wasn't anywhere to be seen....

It appears that when i took my motor in to the gearbox people the other week they don't seem to have tightened all the bolts properly and the top one seems to have fallen out....i took it back and they put a new one in and tightened it up...so it is working fine again now.

So all i have to do now is take the starter back for a refund..

Cheers for the help

Thats 1 for the note book to those who don't D.I.Y. :doh :thumbs
