starting playing up on 3.0 litre SVE.
Symptoms are:
Turn the key and nothing happens, so start to pump the clutch and starter turns over very slowly but does eventually start.
Battery kicking out 12.48 volts frst thing this morning covered in snow.
Is it the starter?
Is the starter the same on the 3.o litre as the 2.7 litre?
Thanks in advance guys

check the battery cables are in good condition and also the earth cable on the engine along with the positive on the starter but remember that's live and doesn't have a fuse as such so it wont like being shorted out.

Have to say though it sounds very much like mine was when it was the starter. Don't know about 3.0 and 2.7 being the same or not but the 2.7 has two types and I've been told both will fit the 2.7.

Thanks for the info Jim all the cables and conections look ok and am begining to think it may be ignition barrel or similar as I have had trouble with the key in the past not returning to its "neutral position" after starting .
If I turn the key really slowly the starter appears to turn over quite happily and the car starts
what do you think

ignition switch (at the back of the ignition barrel), common problem.

I agree with Fez. Based on what you say, sounds like the switch, again as fez says, its a common problem, I have had to do mine.

Its an easy fix (just a touch fiddly with a screw) but you remove the steering cowling, unscrew the ignition switch off the back, plug in your new one and away you go. took me about 20 mins. when I took my old one apart, the connections inside were simply burnt out, the slow turning of the key was merely moving the broken parts into position and making a connection.

for the sake of about £20-£30, I would do that before the starter. I don't think the starters are the same on a 3.0 but I could be wrong.

good luck !

What about the battery clamps, These have given problems in the past.

Tried new feeds to it so ruled out clamps. Anyway it was the starter motor that was faulty. All fixed now with my old starter + current solenoid :)
