Right long story short, my Focus which I had before I brought my Maverick has a few issues starting so I've been through all the general steps, tested plugs, leads, pump etc and it seems to point to the starter motor.

I took the old one off no bother and went and brought a new one from the local motor factors for about £80. As I was fitting it I managed to drop it and break one of the terminals off the solenoid :banghead:banghead:banghead

I managed to get it repaired though at a local garage for £5 :) they just replaced the solenoid from my old one to the new one.

I tried to hook it back up to the car last night but now all I get when turning the key over is a clicking noise from the starter, the kind of noise you get when your battery is dead.

When turning the key over, all the lights flash on the dash in time with the clicking and so does the Immobiliser light above the clock.

I'm not sure what it is :( in honesty I'm unsure if I've even got the polarity right on the terminals, I've reconnected it as I remember it coming off HELPPPPPPPPP lol

I've took some picture of it fitted back to the block, maybe someone can see something I've done stupid :S ??

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need to get this up and running to get it for sale lol

You have a bad connection some place, the fact the lights flash in time with the clicking confirms this, as the starter load is connected the bad connection breaks down so the solenoid drops out, just for the whole thing to be repeated, check the main earth connections as well as the battery terminals, Rick

Awesome, Will have another look tonight how can I check the earths are doing their job?

I know it's not easy to do unless you have a few people to hand but if you want absolute confirmation that it's the starter, then push start the car!

The clicking is the starter solenoid and you are now still using the old one.
It could have an internal short for all you know.

I broke the positive ring off the last focus i did in our workshop.
It normally has a plastic shroud around it which seems to be missing on yours, and on the car i did which was roughly the same age as yours, the copper ring literally snapped off with corrosion when i went to re-fit it. What condition was your one in?
If i remember right the earth lead along with the positive run to the battery and the earth one has a clip connector on the side of the battery box?

You sir do not miss a trick!!! lol

Your right, the plastic collar is still in the shed, I was leaving it off at the moment until I know the starter is working

I have a little bracket that comes of the earth lead that bolts through to where the starter bolt attaches to the block as can be seen in the 2nd picture.

I might try a tow start to be fair to make sure, failing that I might try another starter from the scrap yard or something
