1996 2.7td mav,
car feels fine when accelerating until around 2500rpm when the turbo cuts in,
then it starts making a spitting noise!!!
i try and throttle through this but the spitting gets worse and no extra power is produced by the turbo.
i allow the throttle to reduce a little and the spitting noise stops and the car slowly accelerates.
it seems that every time the turbo is under load this noise occurs and the power symptom happens.
any thoughts?
the pipe work seems good, theres no leak on the exhaust.....
could it be waste gate related?
if so what do i need to check for

does your exhaust have a cat ( omg im so funny ...... arent i ? :nenau )

:naughty:augie:lol

is this with the fuffed turbo or have you fitted the replacement? Rick

i dont think that the turbo is fuffed, i havnt had any probs since and it is still the old turbo, i guess im gonna have to change it and see!
but this problem i have had since getting the truck.
its had a new engine and a cylinder head since.
i will have to get off me arse and fit the new one and go from there, process of illimination i guess

im not a expert mate , but if this problem was there before you did your engine work , and it is there after too , its very likely to be your turbo , if you have a spare turbo to fit , you have nothing to lose by fitting it except time

I cannot remember, what came with the new engine and what was reused? Rick

pass!
this has be apart so many time i have forgotten whats what!

is the cat ok? the iners once came lose in mine and slid to the back stopping the gasses escaping and it run like shit with no power.. i drilled a 10mm hole in front of the problem and it drove good but very loud lol

I could well be wrong but I think the turbo was with the replacement engine and Ads took your old turbo but I have a feeling the pump you have is off your old engine cos the replacement was different????? if that is the case the common factor could be the pump? Rick

there isnt a cat,
and i see where you are coming from rick, but this spitting noise was there before the engine change and head change so i dont think its the pump

it can only realistically be the turbo i think, so swopping it tommorow
:doh

cat ..... spitting ...... well i thought it was funny anyway :p

but if? it is the same pump then it could be, it could be the part of the pump that responds to the turbo pressure, Rick

Hmmmm, a posey then!

Right, I have the spare turbo from cncfabs.
It's bought and paid for now so why not try it, if it don't cure this noise then I may well have to look at the pump.

I will keep you all updated

Missed the start of this thread but it seems a bit odd that your turbo only cuts in at 2500
I'm sure it should be nearer 2000 ish or below:sly
Are you sure there's no air leak somewhere?
