does a terrano 2 x reg its the one that says its a td but has a tdi engine in it . what I want to know is. does it have a speedo cable or is it done by wire?. because my speedo became jumpy yesterday it was stuck on 30 then jumped to 40 and then 40 to 60 . or does anyone know what else it could be ?

look carefully at the short end of the pointer (the counterweight) this can rub on the black plastic fascia causing the pointer to jump when it overcomes the friction.
The behavior will most likely change with the weather/temperature too.

On my 95 Mav Mk1 2.7 Td, the speedo cable comes out of the right hand side of the gearbox, go to the off side " B" pillar, bend down, you should see it.

Doesn't sound like your problem is at this end though.

hope it helps.
