Can anyone tell me if these are Nissan only parts,if not any ideas where I could get one(preferably new)?

Troll back but speedo sensor problem still there.Garage reckon it's at the dash end as the mileometer works but the needle has a mind of it's own.
Question:is it easy to take out the dash to expose the gubbings and what to look for?
I imagine it's soldered joints with plugins on a card, any ideas?

Hi Mudman, thanks for the mail, clicked on the link and got the club forum page but couldn't find the company you were talking about, could you please tell me where I can find them,cheers:thumb2

Found the post about the dash on the Terrano section, sounds like the same thing, now how much of a job to remove the dash?

workshop manual is available under quick links / downloads ..... if that helps ?

Hi Briggie, thanks for that,I've got an Aussie Haynes manual(doesn't cover the 2.8TD model like mine) which shows dash removal, have taken it out and looked to see if needle was sticking, cleaned it up and rebuilt it,now to see if I have had a result.:thumbs
Thanks for your help too Zippy,am also on the dark side

Well I thought I'd done it!Worked normally for a while, then started to indicate about 30km/hr lower than actual speed(not good with all the speed cameras about!),thenit decided to go hard round off the clock:doh, then it wouldn't move from 0 at all until several kilometers later, this happened a few times and now it hovers between accuracy and reading under actual speed:(.It was strange that when it wouldn't register at all it was after reversing onto my drive or just coincidence. The mechanic at the garage didn't think it was the sender unit but a problem with the dash. After having taken it apart and cleaning thoroughly, checking the needle wasn't jammed and looking for dry joints, broken or ill fitting wires/contacts and finding nothing am really not sure. The unit on the gearbox would have to be replaced(Nissan genuine part I guess) as the mechanic said you can't take it apart to check it.Has anyone had experience of this or got any useful ideas, for example is it possible to change the speedo needle assembly itself and is it a pig to do?Cheers in advance:bow

You could do with a swap with another owner, to see if the fault moves with it.
I guess the sender is the easiest.

I expect not many would wan't to remove their's as per " If it ain't broke, don't fix it" principle.

If you knew what pulses the sender sent, ie at what voltage and frequency, it could be possible to simulate the signal for various revs, this is how I calibrated and modified a standard car type tachometer for my outboard.

If the signal is analogue ie voltage/ frequency, then it would be possible to see the signal on an oscilloscope.

The fact it is intermittant, does imply a faulty connection, but this could be at either end.

Dash changed for a replacement 2nd hand one,car still in dry dock so can't proove whether fault is cured yet
