So I had the digital cluster failure which I know is very common, found the fix online and decided I'd do it myself and wahey!!!! Fixed :thumb2

But, whilst removing it, I had to pull the needles off and now I've put them back on none of them work correctly :(

Rev counter goes up and doesn't come back down, fuel is showing full when I know there is less that 1/4 of a tank, temperature goes straight into the red, speedo is the only thing that works right

How can I reset these to their correct positions

Please don't tell me I need new clocks :(

do not know why you had to remove the needles, was not necessary, you only had to solder the rear, anyway the needles are held magnetically so stroke a good thin magnet over each one till it responds, Rick

What mod did you need to do that you have to remove the needles?

Yeah I know I didn't need to remove the needles, but the bell end I am wanted to take the whole thing apart and now I'm in the mess that I am

Not sure that's right rick, they push onto a metal spindle

yes the needles are on a metal spindle but the control stuff under is magnetic, for instance you can re polarise the fuel gauge to go to zero with ignition off but comes back up to fuel level with ignition on, but it is all trial and error, Rick

I've done it now Rick :) was indeed trial and error, I've also double checked road speed with gps app on phone and sat nav, speedo is 3mph faster than road speed as before, revs sorted, temp sitting where it usually does, fuel still monitoring but sure it's right now

You don't have any later clusters in do you Rick?

On the old Mini speedometers if you removed the needle there was a small dot at the -5 mph position you placed the needle on the spindle at this point and pushed the needle stop sideways to get the needle past. The needle was then held firmly against the stop at rest.
This is how Smiths assembled them at the factory.

Good to know :thumb2
I love little bits of knowledge like that

Think yours will be the last type they did with a black carbon sort of effect fascia & black clock faces ? 2000-2003 had a sort of blue clock faces & the mileage was in a different position
