Ok the original speakers are crap. I want to put some better ones in but I am confused on the sizes.

Did a search and people said the terrano SWB front are 5x7 and the rear are 6x4.
Where is that measurements from? As both my fronts are the same size as the back. As it's a maverick the interior is different the speaker may be different sizes.

I am tempted to put some bigger ones in, But want to keep the original speaker tilts at the front. And the same hole as the rears.

Has anyone put any slightly bigger ones in?

You knows it mate :D
I put 6x9 s in my front doors while keeping the original grills and plastic etc:sly
Just checkout my link below it's on there somewhere:rolleyes:
There's just enough room for the drivers of a JBL but I couldn't get Vibe big boys in:eek:
The back has loads of room , I've got 10" subs in the panels and some more 6x9s where the originals were:thumbs

I think 6x9 are a bit big for the angled plastic in the fronts.

Regarding sizes, Do I measure from each screw hole? Like a square?

For best sound, you need to fill and seal the gap around the edge as the sound from the rear will be 180 degrees out of phase and interfere with the sound from the front.

In a car with all the noises etc you may not notice the difference, but to demonstrate it, remove the speaker from the housing and see how awfull the sound becomes.

If you take off the panels and remove the stock speakers + mounting frames (all in one) and then use a dremel or similar to gut the mounting frames of the rubbishy speaker. - Cut around the speaker cone.

I then installed some JBL 5" components. These will fit the stock frames with the help of some self tapers and clips, and a hot glue gun around the edges.

You then retain the air tight seal all around, and the angled up fitment. The tweeter i also mounted in the stock location, having gutted the nissan effort, again with help from the glue gun.

Whilst the door card was off, I used some self adhesive dynomat on the door CARD which i found resonanted badly. Looks totally stock and the improvement in quality is amazing.

A pair of good quality 6x9's in the rear will add enough bass for an average ear. I disconnected the tweeters in them, as they brought the sound stage too far rearwards for my ear.

Yes on the door where the mirrors are.
Mine are replaced there too with crossovers in the dash.
Those gaps are now sealed too by the way.
The 6x9s in the rear of mine are much meatier jobs and so need the tweeters still in, but I hadnt thought of dissarming them:thumbs
How much is that sound deadening stuff by the way?

thanks for the replies, I have bought some JVC 5" speakers for the front. Will have another look at the rears.

just butchered the mounts, 5" speakers fit nicely. Some gaps on the sides. Anyone reccomend what to use to cover them?

Erm gap? The housing should have a ~5" round hole when you have butchered out the original speaker.

Piece of MDF jigsawed to fit?

The speaker must be rigidly mounted and air tight front to back.

I think the speakers are different. It would of not fit without cutting a gap.

I'm also thinking using some wood.

Brilliant !! Thanks Fellas :D

Just read all your hints and tips on mounting 6x9's in the front and back and i'll be starting the upgrade tomorrow. :thumb2
Spent the last 3 days trawling the web for some decent 4x6's or 7x5's without much luck.
I didn't think you'd be able to get a 6x9's in the front, well not without knackering the door card up.
The wife won't know whats hit her :lol
