Speaker Upgrade for Maverick

Has anyone upgraded the speakers in a Mav?

I wouldn't mind getting a set from a Focus at the scrap yard as the ones in my Focus are awesome for standard Ford speakers and I should be able to pick them up quite cheap too. Not sure if they are the right size though, does anyone know what size they are in the Mav and if they are the standard Ford connection

The standard ones are horrible they get really tinny if you turn them up any louder than a 1/4 of the way

the speakers in a focus are completely different size to mav, mav speakers are 4 by 6 inch, focus are 5 by 7 inch, but you could do the 16cm honda speaker upgrade like me

the bigger speaker in the pic is from a focus, the other is from a 95 maverick

also, focus has different connectors to mav

all new fords these days have the same speakers

these are what i fitted into my front and rear doors:naughty, and with a little modding, they fit perfectly, but you need connectors, if you want some connectors making, pm me:thumb2

you can get these out of civics and some newer Hondas, so you might find some cheaper

Probably the reason your standard Mav speakers sound so bad is that the cone surround has perished. They have a paper cone with a thin soft rubber surround which allows the cone to move out and in.
When I checked mine most of the surrounds had gone awol and what was left crumbled when I touched it, this restriction of the movement of the cone gives you little or no bass and a rattle if you try to turn up the volume.

I sorted mine with a pair of good original ones from 96terrano.
