I've no idea about later Terranos, but my mark 1 doesn't have anything much to reduce the noise of the engine when in the passenger compartment. At normal around town speeds etc. all is okay, but anything over 50mph and things get quite loud.

Now my 03 plate Octavia has both the benefit of better gearing for speed and loads of sound deadening built in to make motorway speeds comfy. My kids prefer the Terrano as it's more spacious, but SWMBO doesn't due to the noise factor, any one ever fitted anything to help this?

Probably won't ever get done mind you as I have a huge list of stuff to do first, but maybe one day!

Well the terranos have thick sound deadening behind the dash over the bulkhead, that's it:doh I can't think where else to add it. Maybe round the hole where the gear leaver comes though. I added heat shield/sound deadening and it helped a bit. There's no escaping the td27 shout!!:sly:naughty:naughty

You could fit a hybrid electric motor like a prius:augie

Yeah right! Mine may be having a few running issues, but never that bad!

Can't say I've inspected the bulkhead too much on the inside, somebody put a dash in me way. :nenau:doh

I'm sure I've seen sound deadening fabric underneath the bonnet and the like of vehicles before, but I guess the ideal would be an overdrive - but AFAIK that only exists on the auto boxes, nope not going there either, I like me manual.:p

I'll just dif out the ear defenders from the shed, I'm sure they'll look just lovely on the good lady. :lol

My bonnet has the sound deadening material underneath from new, ok only thin stuff, but every little helps.

There is also some sound deadening material on the plastic under tray.

Give the engine a good thrashing, quietens mine down.

:doh So does mine - never even noticed it - I'm a plum! :augie

There's a plastic undertray? Need to look closer underneath, I thought it was a metal 'guard':doh

I suppose, if I drive slowly at first, the good lady will do her usual and nod off so she'll never know how loud it gets anyway. :p

When I was messing around the other day, I noticed that the material under the carpet is a foam and rubber make up and is approx 1" thick, there is also some of this under the gear stick rubber gaiter.
I find the 3.0 engine is quieter than my old 2.7 though
