my old boss said was better tug than rangey.

you got all the luxury you need already.
if you still got your magic carpet with a rocket up its arse that is:D

I'm sure the interior is lovely. That's what BMW is about, performance and luxury.

Luxury yeah when it works:naughty & performance the X5 ain't that fast TBH my old V8 disco was just as quick & in the snow a micra is more capable :lol drove past loads of stuck X5 in the winter off 2010 left them there as the owners tried to look down at me:nenau

Cool, if your gonna get one of these i suggest it is genuine full service history. I'm at jaguar and it makes a big difference to how it's been cared for, and often if the customers are well off they will have replaced essentials and non essentials, I've seen cars with 3 gearbox replacements in its life.... And that's at 3500 a pop.. You get the idea. Someone who can afford a brand new BMW doesent shudder at the main dealer costs :thumb2

What are these run by? Chain? Belt? It's at "that sort of mileage too"

I'm not gonna slag them off because I know nothing about them but as an ex BMW car owner (318i) I know they are not without their problems. I suggest you find a BMW forum and do a buyers guide search before taking the plunge.

Bmw x5

what does any one in here know about bmw x5?

A close friend of mine has had 3 new ones he kept each one until they were out of manufacturers warranty. His last one he parted with after 6 months as the auto box had extra gears but was extra vague when choosing one when exiting roundabouts. Expensive on tyres he said and main dealer servicing was eye watering at that time.

He is now on his third Nissan 4 Cab Navara and rates them. He does about 60k miles a year in the Nissan. If he had the extra cash I think he likes the status of the BMW and would buy one again. His Missus runs a new BMW 330 x drive and loves it having come out of a Golf.

If you can afford the service and repair costs why not but do not expect cheap motoring. Choose carefully with BMW FSH etc and have 2k set aside for unexpected costs as a minimum.

Pimps love them :lol
My mate has had a few, they are smooth to drive in and have plenty of toys, he like me, likes to polish.
I can't say, he's had many major issues that know of, but he has main dealer services on all his cars, so who knows.

Gold Star

Land Rover originally fitted it to the Freelander in 1997, BMW then decided they would steal it for the X5

The tyres certainly let these type of vehicles down.
The tyres are too wide and smooth for any type of off roading, and can't even cope with wet grass.
They are totally useless in snow or on thin ice.

BUT fitting decent wheels and off road tyres to these vehicles can cause insurance issues, as the decent off road tyres just don't have the high speed rating that the original tyres require by the manufacturer.
:doh
If you can get around this problem then you could then drive across the corner of your lawn without getting stuck.

I do like the size and style of the X5 ...:nenau
But was I talking about the car or the X5 steam cleaner for floors?:doh
:lol:lol

I know which one I could afford...:augie

:jesterbg. Finding a cared for one will be your main issue. I worked for a finance recovery agency a few years back and can honestly say that most of the examples I came across were abused big style:(. I have to admit I am a big Bmw fan having had 6, 3 series but im not keen on the X5 for the reasons that have been stated.

well iv found a good forum im going to test a lot before i decide what todo i dont intend on off roading it no point its for me a treat bit of luxury and comfort apart from the odd gear box failure their pretty good and as with all these types of car main dealer service histry is a must
