A few of you will know (my further post), my exhaust has been in two pieces for just over a week.
Set about removing the pieces today. The flange nuts undid very easily, as did the two on the nearside bracket & the single one near the prop, a good dose of pen oil helped muchly :D The same couldn't be said for the rear one next to the tank. This one sheared off

The exhaust was removed & the U also undid easily :D
Out came the grinder with a cup brush attached. Cut up some old scrap steel to cover the hole that was found near the U clamp upon removal.
The pipe has been reattached to the muffler also the hole has been covered without any major drama.

All welded up & ready for fitting tomorrow :D :thumb2
I must say the turbo has a very nice whistle....... Yes I couldn't resist starting her with it all removed :D :D

So saved myself a few quid & I enjoyed myself too :thumb2

Sorry Mr Zipp, no pictures where taken of the work.

Good lad!!!! Saving money as you go, beautiful hey!!! :naughty

Cool, probably sounds just like bigbunnys truck:thumbs

I was very tempted to use the flange section & add some of the rear pipe for a side exit with no muffler. I think the neighbours wouldn't be too happy when I go to work at 05.20 :D :lol

Also I believe some back pressure is required. I know naturally aspirated V8's do :naughty Though only a little :D :D

Going on how my DTi Omega performed with out back pressure, some is defo needed

Ah the old back pressure debate again!!!! Certainly made for interesting reading last time it was brought up, I'd never heard of it until I read a thread on here :bow

OK so remove your exhaust and take it up the road, it will perform like S**t, it is like water flowing through a pipe, it has a velocity that draws more as it travels forward, Rick

The way I understand it with my experience of removing mufflers etc, is that you can have too much restriction (obviously), but a little in needed.
Turbo chargers make up for some restriction & so the standard muffler on the Terrano may be a little too restrictive :nenau

My V8 has two very small mufflers (one for each side) at the rear (about the size of decent sized bike can) & 100 cell sports cats. This made a huge difference over standard.
It's an art of trial & error with different vehicles.
They discovered some years ago that a V engine produces more power if the two banks are joined via an X pipe some where down the exhaust. Where this X is supposed to placed is also different on differing systems.
The way to find out is to paint your exhaust with plaster of paris from the front to the mid sections & just where the plaster turns a nice golden brown colour is where you place your X pipe arrangement.
The pulses from the firing order push the gases down the system more efficiently producing more power.
This is why if you listen to an old school V8 & a new V8, the sound is different.
Old V8's have a different firing order & this coupled with separate systems make them sound much nicer. The film Bullet as an example.
If you want more power, have decent sized collectors (manifolds) with nice curves & no sharp corners that are long (stock are renowned for being crap) to a exhaust with some back pressure, but not too much.
