So anyway...

So anyway, I'm pootling around on t'internet, working on a new project that's been eating at me for about five or so years.

Now the business is stable after the economic turbulence of the last eight or so years, I figure it's time to start seriously planning and acting on that "itch".

A "N" Gauge model railway.

So I find a nice Forum, similar kind of nice chaps like yourselves, helpful, full of advice, and a bit of banter as well.

Funny thing is I stumble across posts from one of them nice chaps from here! Funny old world!

Still trying to work out if it's "great minds think alike" or "fools never differ".

I think I'll go with the first!

This Forum is somewhat easier to navigate though!

I am learning a huge amount about N gauge though.

You can certainly get a lot of track etc into a small space.
My brother in law has opted for N gauge, it is often more expensive than OO
Now most locos now have remote control chips, and this is the way to go.
one 12 volt feed to the track, sorted.
Expensive, but aren't most hobbies.

My son has opted for OO, infact over the last few weeks I have serviced a dozen of his loco' 6 of which were A4's Mallard, Sir Nigel Gresley, Bittern, etc repaired a few too.
Tip... buy the correct model railway oil don't use 3:1 oil, that affects the plastic over time.

I have still got my old triang hornby, with Britania etc with magnahesion, great big magnets between the wheels.
That is mouted on a 10' x4' base board mounted in the garage roof, hand winched down lol.
I lowered it a few days ago, so my son could take a few bits for his model railway, but it's the first time it has been lowered for 6 years I guess.
In those days, the track was heavier gauge "system 4" or something like that.
What I have noticed though, the detail has improved, but these are no longer "toy" train sets, they are too delicate for that lol
In fact this morning I am off to a small local railway exhibition with a friend.
The problem is, I just can't get the enthusiasm to do anything with it. My grandson is 3, I might be able to do something later !! But not too much later, due to my health condition.
I also have a 1960's Airfix slot car racing set, banked curves, 4 lanes the lot. but I guess the tyres are rotten now lol.

Big Boys Toys

I never had a train set as a kid as they were too expensive though as a working teenager I did have a Scalexctric Set.

A friend of mine is an obsessive Model Railway Enthusiast (Geek) and I am regularly thinking where in the house the wife would let me have one.lol

If it's the forum I think it is, as you say a nice bunch, but there are a few that take it all a bit too seriously and can be a bit obnoxious with their replies.

I like the idea of "Rule Number 1", and I think that is the same way this forum works, only we all seem to accept it on here with out it having to be mentioned all the time.

My layout has been on hold for the summer, all the spare time has been on the Terranos, but hopefully will get some more spare time come the darker evenings.

Oh yes, I was a Lazy-Ferret long before I was Terrano owner, and Terrano owner way before I signed up there... the only ones I am not Lazy-Ferret on is the dodgy ones...lol
