My boss who owns MILBROOKE MOTORS & GENERAL HAULAGE has now stopped the fleet as have SIMARCO, CLARKES & STEVE PRINCE TRANSPORT. Only the main A roads i.e. A12, 127, 13 have been gritted (to late) & the M25 (to late & not enough) The M25 from J 27 to J 9 is down to just 1 lane in some parts.

My advice is stay in the warm or work with your local council / police as i'm going to & recover cars & ferry mid wifes / doctors & get paid  :D :thumbs

I'll wack up some picys at the weekend :thumbs

all this snow lark has made me giggle after last year you would think they would have been prepaired

they new the snow was coming and didnt do anything about it what did they expect to happen

didnt they anounce that they would be ready this year

the worse thing is the people abandoning thir cars in the middle of the roads, they should have had more sence than to take it out.

any of your mates stuck up my way, 200 cars and trucks snowed in on a57
near worksop?

no most of my mates own 4x4's and if they dont they took a weeks holiday :thumbs

even some of these modern 4x4's are getting abandoned like the rav and the bmw's along with a porsche :lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

they expect low profile road tyres to work in the snow :lol:lol:lol:lol

manchester isnt even that bad tbh

with the amount of traffic we get it is just turned to black slush :(

You would think for a cheap set of wheels and standard M&S tyres they wouldn't be stuck, but they probably can't be ar**d to change them, also they have 4 wheel drive so they know they will be ok..:doh...:lol:lol:lol:lol

We know different...:thumb2

so far ( yesterday ) i have towed out ..... 1 peugeot 106 , i vauxhall astra ( old type ) , 1 volvo 940 estate ...... do i get some brownie points ? ( ps was in the disco cos sallydoesnt have a towbar )

probably so fast road orientated big brakes and rims, plus low profiles mean they
cant swat to popular sizes and at types, then nwouldnt be speed approved for
silly car.

looking for my mates ml270cdi, 555 profiles i think, can only get h/t types, forget
grabbers etc, shame cos truck is quite capable with traction control thru the abs
cant see a centre diff lcok, is full time but no tranny lever at all, just a button
for low range, yep a button like back window heater. wonder what chances of
that working 10 years down line having been a chelsea tractor til now.

Well last night on me way home from work i came through Wickford to Basildon, round the roundabout & up the slip road onto the A127 to see the Ssangyoung Musso 4x4 spin & ditch in front of me as i slid a bit...
Put all me rear lights on hazard lights & pulled over.
Went over to find a frantic mum & screaming little girl...
Quickly pulled me winch out & put it onto her tow bar to stop it going further down the ditch.
Then helped them out with another 4x4 owner (Freelander)
In the mean time a fiesta & astra had spun into the ditch...

Police already called, a few of the people had gone back down the A127 to slow & warn other drivers of the sheet ice (or so we thought)

2 police cars & a fire engine turned up & shut the carriage way.

The emergency services were happy for me to help & assist so i pulled the Musso while the fire engine pulled out the other 3 in the same time  but they have a weight (anchor) advantage plus a winch that could pull a house down

1 of the fireman then said that it wasn't sheet ice alone :nenau but a burst water main that had been reported 2 weeks before hand

This then resulted in the A127 being closed from the A176 junction to the A128 junction

The police told all the ditched drivers to claim against the water board...

Guess they'll just say it was an act of god :doh

Sorry for no pics but for obvious reasons i didn't think it appropriate...
