Shit loads :D

runs sweet as a nut and doesn't smoke when warm, but proper large grey cloud when starting from cold ?

Do these suffer with dribbling injectors ?

I get this too - I don't know if the glow plugs are on for long enough - you could try keying the ignition for a second time before cranking over to see if longer glow plug time reduces the smoke.

Yes good point, might as well chuck a set of glow plugs in her, cheap enough

I had a VW T4 van and that started to smoke on start up, it turned out to be knackered glow plugs.
These cars don't smoke too much on start up normally, so I would check the plugs:thumbs

i think i'd be looking at glow plugs too, initially.:thumb2

Both the Picasso and the Maverick have a bit more grey smoke than usual on start up at the moment, the Mav passed the MOT yesterday and had very very low emissions, less than 1/3 that they needed to be.
So I wonder if the fuel we are using at the moment has a different blend or something.

We are very loyal to the fuel stations, in the way that we always buy the cheapest, but usually alternating between Morrisons and Tesco.

I haven't checked the Mav's glow plugs for about 6 months, but it does tend to run a bit rough when one has gone, but only noticable in the really cold weather.

I would expect rough running too with a plug or two down. So it could be the solenoid or timer shutting off too quick.
The box is beside the battery in the inner wing, the wires can corrode there too so check em before yanking it out :thumb2

mine tends to have white smoke on start up, more with a higher ratio of SVO, so maybe the stations are putting in a bit more Bio? So if not the plugs might be the fuel :thumb2
