I have just finished painting one of the bedrooms and as usual I used Dulux emulsion on the walls, I went into the room about an hour after finishing and noticed a strong damp dog type smell in the room.
My 1st thought was that our long dead mongrel had come back to haunt us, but after sniffing around the room, I soon discovered the newly painted walls were the offending items...they stink

I have googled this and it seems to be a problem with some paints, I have also Emailed Dulux to see what they have to say about it.

Anyone else had a smelly paint episode

Seems to be a commone problem, see :-

Might be caused by bad storage of the paint, ie fluctuating temperatutes, even before you bought it.

Contact Dulux with the batch No. the best you can hope for is your money back in vouchers.:nenau

I must admit, I have used old emulsion paint in the past, the last one in our down stairs cloakroom a few months back, I only wanted a litre or so, so I took some from the middle of a large tub of matt white, left over from four years ago...:augie that looked OK, but the edges were showing a few areas of black, following your post, I read a few blogs, and it looks as though my paint had turned mouldy, luckily, it didn't affect the room, which is normally dry, but if I had used it say in the bathroom, it might have really turned to mould...

I wonder if it is a problem with modern paints, maybe they removed various chemicals for health issues, that may have prevented this.

maybe you bought gloss paint , and put it on upside down ? :augie
