Smelly car

dammit. Let me explain.

so I got mi car fixed as most of you know. Decided this weekend to get rid of all the bin bags we had stored up in the garden. bin bags contained wood shavings and hay from the many guinea pigs and Rabbit we have. We had about 20 bags, so had to do two runs. Bags had been out for months...so very wet....you see where I am going?

STUPID SILLY ME didnt put enough protection down on the rear seats when folded down, and a load of the gunk has leaked out into the car, and it STINKS.

I have tried cleaning it, vaccing it, even removed the rear car/rear seat liner and cleaned under the sections by the arches, and even cleaned under where the seats fold back (if you look, theres two black plugs, my mistake was not unplugging them...

I have now washed the rear carpet liner, but it still smells, and even after using copious amounts of febreeze and fresh air, it still smells. There isnt any more of the watery gunk, i have cleaned all that up etc, an di have also removed the two plugs under the seat to allow a bit of air over night (cant risk leaving windows open incase it rains)

SO, does anyone know any brilliant ways to elliminate the odour??

Here are a couple of methods I've been told about, but I have never tried...

Wash the affected area's with Bicarb & get 2 bottles of white vinegar, empty them into four bowls (two bowls for a two seater) and place the open bowls in the footwell.

Close all the windows and leave it overnight, in the morning/next day remove them and air out the car. This will give you a nice neutral smell back in the entire car.

I've also heard of the same thing done with instant coffee instead of vinegar.

sounds to me like you need to kill the bacteria in the stuff thats leaked out ...... steam cleaning will do that

oops, forgot to mention, I have used my steam cleaner on it too and febreeze. I have just read that charcoal is good, so I have just dash out and put a bag of charcoal in there, see what happens!!

Sounds like you need to use some anti-bacterial gel or something like it.

I have read about the Bi-Carb, all we have is baking powder. for now, I have removed the rear carpet (had to cut it out from the rear arches) and that sout now, washed, but still stinks. I have treated the boot with a clean, and spray with hammerite. I have sprayed the entire rear end, plus seats etc with anti bac spray for tonight, and put a bag of charcoal in there too. tomorrow after work i will pop into a shop and get some bi carb and treat EVERYTHING but i also want soem of that proper enzyme stuff, like an Odour bomb or something? to get into the nookes and crannies...anyone ever used anything like that?? or is bi carb the way to go? the smell is rank, and very strong, and isnt shifting, so is bi carb suitable? I read that I have to kill off the bacteria now after giving it a clean...??

I've sussed it, all you've got to do is set light to the charcoal
Then after your BBQ it smell all luvley like burnt chicken and spare ribs :sly

Clivvy , speaking from bitter experience of a cat pissing on the back seat of my toledo....................

Problem is the more you wet it the deeper in it goes so you wet and wash more, it goes in.

The only way youll sort it is by specialist cleaning or the diy version.

Your 2 options are to either wash and extract, ie use a karcher carpet cleaner or a rug doctor type thing to suck all the moisture out as opposed to letting it dry

Or take out the seats and carpets, wash em and rinst them unti the waters running through clean and fresh :thumb2

Use a branded good quality deoderiser and shampoo (in a life far away I used to sell karchers and all the chemicals) bi carb is fine but properly mixed chemicals tend to do a better job.

Your last option, and I have no experience of this, is specialised cleaning where they use some kind of enzyme to kill the bacteria. Its how spilt milk and other similar stuff is cleaned out of cars.

got it. plan is to grab some bi-carb and basically cover the rear seats/carpets. leave that for a few days. at the same time, charcoal will be in place. I am also going to get hold of soem enzyme product as you suggest, I read that this is required to eat away the bacteria, thus killing the smell completely. not sure what form to buy this in, theres the odor bomb types, or chemical that you simply wash in and leave....

if needs be, i'll rent a rug doctor, if nothing else, itll give my other half something to laugh about.

well, at work today, but i plan on popping into the supermarket for soem bicarb, vinegar and more charcoal. didnt seem QUITE as bad this morning, but still there.

I did the carpets, the rear boot carpet/seat liner is out at the moment, and it stinks. i did steam clean everything, but its not an industrial cleaner or anything. i did nt do the roof liner, so thats a good one, i just dont want to wash anything in. I reckon i need soem sort of odor bomb to get intot he nookes and crannies...
