Hi all, can anyone help please?

2.7TDi Terrano 2 1998

Over the last couple of days there seems to be a smell of diesel on my motor, i have looked underneath and there is nothing leaking and no drips, lift the bonnet and the smell seems to be coming from the off side, so checked pipe work, no signs of leaks, followed pipe to filter, no leaks, followed outlet pipe and it then seems to disappear under and behind the power steering pump.

Can anyone tell me where it goes after that and is it likely that something is leaking under there?

Any help is much appreciated

Cheers
stephen

have you looked at the injectors? get a torch, shine it under the I/C, you can see each injector, the light will shine off any liquid so easy to see...

check no4 injector, the little rubber bung rots and weeps and then pops and the you get diesel every where, buy them from car spares shops. :thumb2

whats the best way to get to the injectors to check them?

take the I/C off, undo the fuel pipes, undo the fuel spill pipe, then you have access. the fuel pipes are tight, so undo the clips that hold twopipes together, then you have abit of slack. but for visual inspection, you dont have to remove anything, just shine a bright torch in under the I/C you can see each one easy. the No4 is right at the back and easy to see.

i ahev a document i made for this process if you want it?

Cheers for that.

Yes i would like to see the document please

So if it is the seals do i just get them from a motor factor?

yes, but there will be pipes as well it's up to you if you want to change the pipes, be careful they tend to be brittle and break, clips are the hardest part of job, well more awkward really. :thumb2

if you still want my little guide, PM me with your email address, i can then mail it to you. its simple, but has pictures and has proved helpful to others in the past :thumb2

incidentaly, if you need to remove the No1 injector, you will have to butcher a long socket to fit. again this is on my document. the injector has a sensor attached on the side, of all places, so a normal round socket wont fit over...

Hi all, i have tried to take some snaps of what i found when i looked at number 4 injector.

The pipe that runs between the injectors seem wet as does the injector, looking at the terrano manual the injectors are held in place by clamp type thing, however these look like they are screwed in....what is it that i need to remove and replace?

Any help is much appreciated.

the fabric/rubber return pipes bound to be problem,it runs ok ? if it were loose injector pipes think youd have rough running

Hi jace, yes starts and runs fine, just the smell....so do you think i should just replace the pipes?

Do you know the sizes etc, diameter i mean?
Does it have to be the fabric/ woven type?

Cheers

also, once i have replaced whatever i replace, how do i get rid of the old spilt diesel that is there now, is there something i can wash it away with?

Hard to see where the fuel is coming from with all the wet everywhere but seeing as the pipes are wet,I am guessing that your rubber leak off pipes could be past there best and need changing
(The rubber goes brittle over the years and eventually leaks).Ever so easy to do and the pipe can be bought and cut to length from a diesel specialist.Other than that you will need to jet wash and dry the area and look for the leak when everything is clean

thats a protective sheaf over rubber they perish with age god knows on size motor factors just sell it by foot usally, youre gonna have to take intercooler off? mop it up with rag then gunk or traffic film remover and hose it down.

I haven't "red" the above post's  :doh

I would replace the hose & make sure the injectors tight :thumbs

Fairy liquid in warm water(Make a strong mix) squirt it over the areas and brush in then leave for 5 mins then wash off with warm water and repeat till clean.Works very well for me and I have done quite a few leak off pipes on different vehicles :thumbs

cheers for the replies guys, that has put my mind at rest a little.

so as far as the pipes go should i find a diesel specialist and get the pipe and clips from them or just try a local motor factor?
