Did a bit of digging out for and thought great someone wants the soil just a case of fill the trailer and away i go, well sort of.

Set off, pulled away fine felt heavy, could also feel it underbraking aswell, struggled a bit up a fairly long steep bank about 40mph all the way.

Finally after an hour of emptying with two people, thought to myself seems like quite a lot of soil here, checked the approx weight of soil online and realised that i had taken over 3 tons plus the trailer  :augie.
Wont be doing that again  felt on the limit of the truck and dont think i would have got away with it if i had to go more than a few miles.

Sounds like a good work out for the truck, they love it though mate, just the clutch that will of been hurt, but as long as you didnt notice any serious burning smell it will be all good

I had a full pallet of 7 newton blocks in back of a hilux double cab once, backed it up this steep building plot to unload and nearly rolled it going over some ruts left by the digger was absolutely mental

Tut Tut Tut,,:lol

In my early days of driving, I had a Toyota Corolla, and this beast of a 4 wheeled trailer that someone had built out of 2 inch box section and 1/4inch steel plate.

I think it must have weighed in at 1/2 tonne, if not more.

I was paving part of the garden, and my father-in-law used his "Bowling green keeper" discount to get me 40 paving slabs and some sand, only thing was, they had to be delivered to the bowling green, about 2 miles from my house. Not knowing how much these things weighed, I stacked all the 2 x 3 foot paving slabs round the out side of the trailer, then filled the middle up with the sand.

The poor car, which had only a 1.3 12valve engine, gave it a bit of thought, then went for it, and towed it back home. The only problem was when I tried to turn a corner, as the 4 wheel trailer just wanted to go in a straight line. Left some lovely scrub marks on the road and car park. Still, I got it back home, and set to unloading it.

I got a call from the Father-in-law, asking how much I had picked up, as it looked like someone had nicked the rest of it, and he was about to call the police. I told him I had it all, and he just sounded incredulous. Apparently he had had to pay extra on the delivery as the people he ordered it from said it was 3.5 tonnes, so thy had needed to use a larger truck to normal...

Opps... good cars those Toyota Corollas...

Lesson learnt... sand cement and soil weigh far more than it looks.:lol

reminds me of the police camera type prog where theres a twin wheel transit
type overloaded with rubble. police, (south wales I think) wont let it move
so had to be transported on an artic low loader to weigh bridge.

owner convinced its ok, scales say other wise think was grossing 4.5 tonnes.

one of traffic plods notes that rear springs are level or curved wrong way.

says needs to keep springs 'smiling'. thought had as my old trailer has
leaf sping over axle, but atleast I know max load from tyre ratings...
