Filtering is time consuming, especially in this weather and there is nothing I hate more than scraping filter socks out and getting mucky!!

I can't do anything with "Whites" as I've not got a Bio processor, the only thing that's of any use to me is the liquid WVO. Once my cubies have settled for a few days, I get 2 clear layers, "Whites" or fats and sludge that sediment at the bottom and then clean oil that sits nicely on the top.

Given I made the switch to WVO to save cash and also be green I've decided that rather than using electricity to power a pump that will suck the liquid from the top, I'd use my noggin and let gravity do the work :thumb2

Once drained out that should filter through my socks a hell of a lot quicker than keep scraping the gunk out every 5 mins!!!!

What do you do with all the gunge in the bottom then?

Can't you arrange to burn it for central heating:augie

I re-bottle it all into clean SVO containers or whatver i can lay my hands on that is clean at the time and then cut the old cubies up and stack them inside themselves

I'm currently in talks with a guy who makes BioDiesel who may take this from me, otherwise I just take it to the tip and bin it there however, now I've started taking a trailer I have to book it in a week in advance which is a pain in the arse so if this guy will take it off me and collect I'll be laughing :D

i've seen people mix it with sawdust and use it for log burning stoves etc. gives off a very hot heat

i make logs for my woodburner.
on the oil site some one might trade your crap for good oil, ratio about 3 to 1.
worth a try.nothing lost maybe gained.

Erm, why not just syphon it out ?
Also have you got the contact details for this bio maker you know ?
We're always on the look out for fresh meat, oops, I mean oil :naughty

Do you make your own or are you after the finished product? If you want the whites I'd be happy to let you have them as your a friend of the forum :thumb2

Siphoning it out is difficult and is a 6 arm job and you tend to disturb the fats at the bottom

I was thinking more of just putting the pipe to the level you want and say clip it in place with a peg or similar. Then a quick slurp and job done :thumb2
You get to keep the cuddie then without putting holes in them.
What about this if your lipstick isn't oil safe :lol

I've tried many different methods and this one seems to be the easiest to get the most liquid oil as all pumps that I've tried seem to disturb the crud at the bottom

Have you tried some form of capillary action i.e. a length of clean rope, or cloth, which could be placed in the container to the depth of the liquid you want to recover, with the other end in the container you are decanting it into (possibly lower as in your picture). This might also provide an additional filtering process as well.

I don't understand the physics, but you might be able to put the rope/cloth in a plastic tube to prevent a mess.

Regards

I've tried that too and end up with even more of a mess somehow!!!

As for additional filtering I'm trying to keep it simple and would rather just pour the nice liquid into my original filter sock setup

What you need is a solid pipe, in a friction grip, start the pipe a few inches down, start the pump or syphon, then gently lower the solid pipe, that way you don't disturb the lees. OOOPs home made wine trick that one...

If you are feeling rather tight, syphon off the riskier few mm into a tall container with other syphoned residue, leave again, then syphon off again.

The best container for this task is a tall thin one, rather than a wide shallow one.
