Some toe-rag must have hit the side of my car while parked up in Canterbury Lidls today. Went in, and everything was fine, managed to get some great bargains while in there, and then when we came out, and my wife went to open the passenger side door, it would not open very wide. When I looked, the plastic silver trim at the bottom of the door was hanging off, and hitting the front wing, stopping the door from opening...

Can't work out where they actually hit it, as apart from all the clips on the trim panel being ripped off, and broken, along with most of the mounting points on the trim panel also snapped, and the rear edge of the front wing being slightly further in than is should be, there does not seem to be any other damage or dents, but I will have a proper look tomorrow.

What is so annoying is, I parked down the far end of the car park, away from most of the other cars. Then to add insult to injury, when we went in to ask about CCTV, it turns out they only have it at the doors, so if we had parked up that end, it might have caught something, but there is nothing down the end we parked...

Anyway, looking at the fact that all the "U" shaped bits the trim clips fit into are broken on the plastic, it looks like I will have to replace the whole plastic panel, anyone got one in reasonable condition?

Got some but can't remove them tried before couple of times also a member off here tried to remove one but couldn't. They are so tightly clipped on they just break

Sorry to hear about that, we had the same thing happen to our Honda Jazz, barstewerd hit both passenger side doors :(

Some toerag did the same to my wife's Picasso, stoved the rear nearside wing in around the wheel arch.

Rather than claim on the insurance, I decided to have a go, boy the metal is so thin, I have held thicker beer cans.:doh

Some popped out by finger pressure only, for the rest I bought one of those hot melt glue stick thingies, you hot melt glue a plastic mushroom on the dent, then using a small bridge supplied with the kit, tighten up the clamp and it pulls some of the dent out.
You do this about 20 times in different places, where? is where the skill is, I guess, and I was amazed that 95% has pulled out, a bit of metalic T cut and you can hardly tell, unless you are close or see a reflection of a straight curb.
Kit was only around £10 Amazon or Ebay, and it does work.
Uses a lot of glue sticks, there is also a release agent to remove the glue, a tiny drop or less and the glue comes off.
Worth looking on YouTube on how to do it.:thumbs:thumbs

Hope it helps,

Best regards,

Rustic

Now back in the UK after a 6 hour flight last night.

Thanks, That kit sounds handy, I will look into that for a future "Just in case".

Luckily, having been out and looked at it in the sun light, I can't see any proper dents, it looks like they have just pushed the rear of the front wing in about 3 mm closer to the body, so looking at it, if has basically tightened up the curve where it doubles back on it's self and then turns to go towards the "A" pillar.

The problem is, it has smashed every clip housing on the plastic panel, but now, again having looked in the sunlight, I wonder if it had been broken before especially after reading the response from CNCFABS, as there is a lot of Black hard glue like stuff behind there as well, which was holding the front and top on, as well as the normal double sided trim tape where it should be, and it was missing a couple of clips completely

So I am guessing that the knock must had broken the glue bonding, as there is not a trace on the actual plastic trim, suggesting it has bonded to the paint/metal, but was just stuck on the plastic.

Now I am going to have to try and work out how to get the stuff off of the door, and see if I can find something that will glue to the plastic.

Why are people such Gits, we parked in an area where there was loads of spaces, and we had a space on either side of us, with loads of clear spaces else where, but still some D1CK has to hit you.
