ok , i know it sounds silly , but is it possible to add a intercooler to a td without faffing about ? ..... im thinking it will give me even more ooomph :naughty

i suppose what i mean is to just bolt one on without any mods

yea you can add one,
but i think with the pipe work running around the engine bay picking up the heat again youd lose any benifit.

( though i could be wrong )

obviously id have to have a " hole " in my bonnet or some way of providing cold fresh air to it , but is it feasable ?

best person to ask would be Pete, but then I think hed just MAKEITFIT!

if its possible , im thinking a extra 30 + bhp will make a heck of a difference to a standard td :naughty:eek:

im not 100% sure its just a bolt on, but makeitfit will know for sure. actually....the intercooler intake and outlets arent part of your engine, so how would it fit?

the intercooler will have its own..

also the engine HAS an inlet for air
just need to fit an intercooler between air filter and engine.
its simple... in therory.. just getting it all to fit and get enough air through the intercooler to work.

nissan put in on top of the engune with a bonnet scoop..

so maybe two scoops like makeitfit has, one for the intercooler and the other for an AIR RAM..

Allisport used to do a front mounted intercooler conversion, in fact a lot of vehicles have them front mounted, and i think the m re direct path for the cold air makes up for the longer pipes - it's common on high performance cars. But i think with extra / cooler air you will need a way if adding more fuel to make the benefit work, on a TDI the MAF does this (I believe) adjusts the fuel input to match the air input. SO basically you could just wind up the fuel pump, but what that would do to economy i have no idea :nenau

I did post a link a while back to an aftermarket IC conversion kit someone had listed on ebay, it might be worth a look

Morning :sly
Holes in the bonnet eh, I think that's my dept :D
Briggy in theory yes pretty straight forward IF you can do the spannering and have a TDi to nick the bits off. The intercooler part will be the easy bit. The bonnet though is a lot more faff, mainly because the newer ones with scoop are a different shape on the front edge. So you'd need to change the front grill too and probably the lights:augie
You can certainly cut your own hole in the lid as I've done but it's a lot of work. Front mount will be more expensive as you'll need to buy a bespoke kit, but at least the body work is untouched then:thumbs
Further more you're not going to get an extra 30 horses just from the I/C so other mods will need to be done to the pump at least.
The I/C itself may only add about 10 bhp the rest comes from pump, turbo and exhaust.
Enjoy
