hello, sorry if this has been covered before but i searched and did not find my answer so here goes...i got my cb today a maycom em 27 80ch and a 7 inch magmount,i am waiting on my swr meter coming and am using one of the aerials in my "cb aerial post" so my question is i am wanting this to be a removable set up,the cb fits nicely in the cubby hole bit at the bottom of the centre console so is easy in and out, obviously the magmount is removable so will i have to swr the aerial after removing it each time or will i be able to just stick it back on the roof in the same sort of place and not re do it,also where is the best place to run the coax into the car bearing in mind that it will be coming off to go in the house when not in use.

sorry for the long winded post
thank you,
paul.

Devs Mine fits in spare cubby hole i got from scrappy.Run cable down rear offside door seal across back of rear seats and down under centreconsole.Check swr every so often but never had problem.piggy back cig lighter or run lead from batery.

Watch the coax as water runs down the outside of it and goes passed the door seals and wets your carpets. Depends how long your coax is but mine runs down through the tailgate openning seal on the driverside, there's a nice channel for it.
Theoretically you should check the SWR every time you move the aerial. However as Dinky said try and place the aerial in the same place each time and just check every so often.

setting up the aerial

hi davs.
dont worry about swr to much. put mag mount where you want it.Put a rag or something under it first so it dont mark your paintwork.
bring coax into truck through door ,there is enough give in door seals to accomadate it.
wire cb to battery or use cigar lighter socket.
DONT FORGET TO USE A FUZE
ADJUSTING SWR
set cb to channel 1 take an swr reading ,set to channel 40 take a reading . now move the sliding piece of aeriel up or down then take another swr reading ........"has it gone up or down" check channel 1 again . the aim is to get the swr to ballance at channels 1 and 40 .
so you may need to play around with it for an hour to get it at its best.
if you have got a reading of 1.0 to 1.6 then you are ok .
..................................................
USING AN SWR METOR .put cb on channel 1.
if you look at the metor you will have a knob and a switch on front panel
connect metor in line using a patch lead between rig and metor ,screw aerial in other end . put switch in left hand possision key mike and turn knob clockwise and watch needle rise keep turning untill needle goes right to end of red scale .now let go mike key and switch to right side key mike again and read of the scale .
now repeat on channel 40
.............................................SWR FAULTS
IF YOU HAVE A NEEDLE THAT FLYIES ACROSS INTO THE RED ON BOTH SWITCH POSSISIONS YOU HAVE A COAX SHORT (inner and outer touching each other making a dead short usualy fault is at the plug.
try moving mag mount about on roof or bonnet and check the readings again some places will read lower or higher and the signal strength will be stronger for and aft which is ideal for mobil use on road .
..........................................................................
IF USING A GUTTER MOUNT A GOOD BARE METAL EARTH IS REQUIRED.
....................................................................
DONT WIRE UP + AND - THE WRONG WAY ROUND.
IT WILL SMOKE AND DIE.
I USED TO BE A RIG DOCTOR AND REPAIRED A LOT OF RIGS DUE TO BEING WIRED THE WRONG WAY ROUND.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
