Is there anything to be done other than a good soaking in WD40 or similar?

You guys might have guessed by now, I am working my way through a MOT failure list.
It was two pages long! :(
I'm getting there though, thanks to your help and the search button. :thumbs

how was this detected as a failure?
What effect does it have?

If the cylinder part is siezed then you're in trouble. If it's just the mechanics of the lever set up then WD40 may help along with Mr Hammer.
I binned mine and went manual bias lever, but then I'm offroading more than road driving :sly
In theory you could take off the valve and force out the plunger, clean out the bore and fit new seals , IF you can find the right size.
Nissan wanted about 400 quid for a new one FFS :doh
 
Bane of most of my vehicles. :(
WD40 and a thrashing with a hammer is a good starting point :)
 
no idea how mine passed cos it was rotten never mind seized

It does make you wonder whether the MOT tester does actually know what half of the components do on your car sometimes.

In fairness I think half of us would be better qualified at passing our trucks
 
Are you sure its the valve? Have you checked the rear brake adjustment/shoe condition? It could be a faulty/leaking brake cylinder or even a drum full of LSD oil if the half shaft seals are shot. The load valve doesn't stop the rear brakes from working, just increases braking force if you're carrying a heavy load.
 
i thought that valve only comes into place when the back end is under more load, i.e. when towing? Mine was broken and it passed an MOT, before that it cant have been in good condition - point being it didn't affect the breaking during the MOT test.
 
I think the point is the MOT tester must see that the mechanism works.
It won't be loaded and checked for increased braking, rather he'll just push the lever. If nothing happens, you're goosed ;)

No seized load sensing valve has always been fail

I guess if the MOT was twice as long, then we would all complain at the high cost and the cost of putting things right that we think are just on the border line.

It still surprises me that thay give advisories on things like some slack in wheel bearings, slight play in ball joints, holes in sills but not close to structural points, personally, I see these as a fail, and put them right before the MOT, as probably the next inspection is next years MOT, by which time if your mileage has increased could result in a component failing.:doh

Even small holes in exhausts are only advisories. I'm sure that most of these so called advisories would have been a fail in the past.:doh
I still work to high standards, I have my own family to consider, their safety is paramount at all times they are in the car.

Fake MOT's
Personally I think those people who are still able to "obtain" an MOT certificate by other means... should have the book thrown at them. They are putting other peoples lives in danger, as well as their own family, that clearly they don't care about.

My son works in an MOT testing garage and he tells me they are so restricted in what they can and can't do.
IF your truck is caked with thick underseal and generally "looks" ok , then there's no good reason to poke around, which he can't.
Things like seat belts don't get tested if there's a baby seat in situ either. How stupid is that.:doh
 
i got an advisory once for having a satnav holder on the windscreen

Cannot do that any more, they are printed by the MOT station on plain paper, but the important bit is the DVLA has the details, and no matter where you live you go through dozens of ANPR cameras every day and it will not be long before you are stopped and taken off the road, well so goes the theory, Rick
 
Fake MOT , piece of piss £140 mate no questions asked . Print out the same as everyone else gets. Logged on VOSA dvla whatever . ANPR any time you want it's logged , it's "official". It's just down to a man and his keyboard. How easy do you want it :augie
