Has anyone got any experience of replacing seatbelts?

For some reason, all three on the passenger side have some fraying, they should be plentiful (ish) from scrappy's, but I was wondering how easy (legal) it was to change them myself.

piece of cake, even if you have a later model with pre tensioners you can change the belt keeping the original spool, just remove the spool from the motor and pull the belt out fully, you will see the belt is secured by a pin passing through the gap in the spool, just push the belt back and remove the pin, then pull the belt from the spool, pass new belt back and insert the pin, just do not let the spool unwind or you will have a lot of rewinding to do, Rick

Depends how bad the fraying is if not to bad run a lighter along where it has frayed which will melt the belt slightly & stop the fraying, have done it on a couple of my own cars. It is fully legal for you to change the belts & not a hard job & i'm sure someone on here might have some belts poss Rick:nenau

Food for thought...

Thanks for the description Solar, will bear it in mind, I was hoping to just unbolt and re-bolt a replacement from scrappy.

I've not removed any trim before, how easy is it to remove around seatbelt securing points?

I may try the lighter trick in the short term until I can get it sorted.

It has a new MOT, with three listed as advisories, I just don't like the look of 'em!

don't know how old your motor is, but if it is old watch out for the seat belt that fixes through the wheel arch, the arch can rot hidden by the underseal, bad design, maybe newer models don't have the bracket which acts as a water trap :nenau

Yep they do, I took mine off and gave it all a good grease up a while back.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll check both for rust/rot when I do the job.
