So another hammerite session done, 16.50 in hammerite and 95p for a set of brushes, do check behind your rear wheel plastic arches, you'd be surprised how much mud gets caught between the body and the plastic, I had lines of surface rust!! :eek:

All clean and protected now :cool:

















 
Well done Alex, hope you aint painted over rust bubbles in those rear arches:doh

Someone will always say that, no matter what you are painting, so why not say it lol....:lol:lol

Hammerite is good paint, but is hard and brittle and can chip, so check areas subject to gravel rash regularly.:thumb2
 
If I was keeping the 05 plate Id be following your lead Alex with the hammerite.
 
It's certainly done well so far, it's survived the year and held off all ht nasties, it was only just starting to get a bit weak :thumb2

I recommend it for anyone, a 20 quid job will save hundreds on future welding or rot repair bills.
 
Mines getting undersealed & stone gaurded again soon:thumb2 got some repainting to do on the coloured parts I did last year as well but once done it'll be nice & clean looking ready for this years car show season & the T2 is on show back end of next month & in May plus a couple of other dates later in the year so far:augie

I'll be Waxoyl'ing mine when the weather gets better and also Hammeriting as you have done

Especially here in the pic below as near my rear door it looks like it's already been repaired at some point as I can see surface rust

 
That rear cross section does rust out from the inside :eek: Water can pool around the body mount area . Not nice. Keep up the preventative work Alex, as it'll save you doing a Black Pearl :lol

That rock salt has Taken its toll on the underneath of mine.
Wire brush, scraper and waxoyl at the ready :thumb2

Perhaps a no no, I actually squirted the nozzel in the chassis holes at the rear, the muck that came out was interesting!!! :eek:

The holes near the rear wheels ;)

It was only very light surface rust, so in this instance no, you must ensure that the area is clean from any flakes or damp/wet

otherwise the flakes will still fall off leaving an exposed area, a wire wool brush is good for this, or sandpaper but a bit long...

and the most imporant is damp! make the area you are applying it to is dry, otherwise it will slowly degrade inside out :thumb2
